what have the stock trannys and rearends been able to handle? horsepower wise...

and im talking about with slicks or drag radials. cause traction is every drivetrains worse enemy.

I snapped my driveshaft with 245 wide drag radials a few years ago at the drag strip. These cars werent really built to take much abuse in that arena- fu*kin pu$sy engineers at BMW didnt tighten up the drivetrain to handle such things so I guess sticking to road racing will be the solution to not spending BANK on replacing drivetrain parts after breaking them >=(

It's all in how you launch, with some wrinkle walls and slipping the clutch relatively stock drivelines have lasted damn near the millenium mark.

Benny, I think you're rather wrong there. Check out John's M52 turbo and how he sh!ts trannys.

bad example though - he buys used ones from junk yards.

The cars and parts are in junk yards for a reason haha. But even still, John runs mid 10's. If I ran a mid 10 and my trans died after 150 passes, that'd be fine with me.

all of my trannies held up fine till i started doing 3rd gear burnouts in the water box at the strip. but even then, none have failed, they just start whining like little bitches.lol

You ever happen to tear one apart John and see what was going on with the whining?

No i have not, however im pretty confident its an input bearing issue. noise is only existent when foot is off the clutch and sounds like a super charger when driving in gear. higher rpm the louder the supercharger noise. No its not the throwout bearing. its been inspected everytime.

I still have yet to pull my tranny after the last pass. Im considering the cost effectivness between the bearing + labor, or another junkyard tranny.

That's exactly what I was getting at... I haven't pulled one of these ZF's apart yet. Know nothing about them. Maybe some more cyro opportunities.

I've been thinking about doing the same, my first tranny started sounding like a SC too. I think if I do it I'll get all the parts cryo treated too; just like you did your drive axles.

You'll have a single problem when you're making 800 rwhp rather than 240 rwhp :-)
