X5 vs. 540i

[Five Speed]

Why is it that a 4.4L X5 has a quad-dual exhaust setup and the 540i, with the same engine, does not?


Could these parts be inter-changeable?

These are my guesses:

1) More room under the X5 to have spare wheel and quad exhaust.

2) True, BMW could have done without a spare wheel on the 540 just like the E39 M5. But it's entirely possible they wanted to keep the M5 appeal alive and distinct from the 540.
