Hi Guys
My E34 has developed a knock on the passenger side. Couldnt find it and the MOT tester couldn't either last week.
Have now located the problem as being movement in the top door hinge. I can replicate the noise and can see and feel movement in the pin
So, my question is as the hinge is welded to the car and the other end is bolt to do plate, has anyone had to address my problem and if so, what was it? The hinge on has a screwdriver slot and a small circlip to hold it in place.
Any advice would be very much appreciated as to how I can cure this problem
Cheers
Andrew
How is the door hinge pin secured? Does it have a thread at the top and then a straight shaft going down through both parts of the hinge? There is movement in the hinge sideways and I am wondering what would happen if I removed the circlip and tried to undo the pin with a screwdriver on the slotted head? If my pin is broken, the could I unscrew the pin as it has a thread at the top only and then tap out the pin shank?
Any comments or advice much appreciated
Cheers
