View Full Version : Noob Painted Lowers Q's
So for those that have painted lowers, is it because your E34 came like that due to the slight changes in the later model years?
Also, if your E34 did not have painted lowers and it does now, did you buy the later model year bumpers or did you just have a body shop paint the lowers for you (perhaps when/if you had the car re-sprayed)?

lowers.... skirts/lips?
My car came with them in black. Same of the stock painting cosmosschwartz. Then I painted the trims (black plastic) in cosmosschwartz black as well.
now is all black. even the interior is all black.

Yes I am referring to the lips and side skirts...
Looks like my E34 has slightly smaller side skirts than others and the bumpers seem to be slightly different than the ones that are painted that I see here on the forum. Maybe what I am seeing in the M5 bumpers???

Cars that had painted bumpers had sideskirts; you don't have sideskirts, you're seeing the rocker panels (that's why they look "smaller").
btw, the bumpers are the same whether they came painted or not, unless you are indeed looking at m tech bumpers (but you'd know, they look completely different to what you have on your car)
^^^Thanks for the clarification. So then would my car look funny with sideskirts and not the mtech bumpers?

No. Most 1995 models were sideskirts without mtech bumper covers. Painting your lowers would just make it look more like a '95. Many people paint the rocker panels. I did at one point, but now have mtech sides.

No, it would look good. However, if you have body-color skirts then you need to paint the front and rear bumper lowers too.
What color is the car? If it's anything but black it will look a little funny if you don't get the hard-to-obtain plastic strips on the door bottoms of cars with M Technic skirts.
