trying to do motor mounts, but cant! need tips..

so yesterday i was working on my car, hoping to do the motor mounts. to get to the driver side motor mounts you have to take out the alternator right? so i tried to take it out, i got it loosened, but with the space it wont come out, losened the oil filter location and it still wouldn't come out. do i have to take the whole oil filter canister out? or is there an easier way to do this. i got fed up after while and intalled my new valley pan. any tips would be much appreciated, i'm most likely doing something wrong.

i've done the drivers side without removing anything. Lots of extensions, swivel and a friend. I used 1/2" extensions and swivels. I forget the socket size but i do know that i left the socket on the new motor mount with the swivel because i could not get it out.
