I wonder if any one here ever did a forum transfer, I know it was done on the neon board a few years back. It went like this, Someone needed a twincam in arizona and didnt have much coin. someone was selling one in sault st. marie and didnt want much coin. The money was transfered and the engine went from forum member to forum member until it reached its destination 4 days later. The cost of shipping..lunch for the end drivers, friendships were created lots of people got involved each taking little of there own time to help out a fellow enthusiast people got a storry to tell..damn it would be cool to try that just once... second thought..thats gay...jesus i'm getting old.

depending where the buyer is located, this might bring the cost down. e.g. if he lives close to the border, then you just have to ship it to a warehouse close to the canadian border in the states, then the buyer can pick it up from there.
there are other way as well. post that question on www.maxbimmer.com (http://www.maxbimmer.com) alot of canadians there buy from the states

There are better ways to ship than DHL or Fedex. I shipped a whole motorcyle to California from Nova Scotia (opposite corners of the continent for those that failed geography) for @ $700.
You need to dig a little further. Google "freight forwarders". If it is on a pallet and can be delivered to a business you can do a whole lot better

+1 Do it freight...much cheaper. Or call a motorcycle shipper and see if they could work with you even though its not a bike. Imagine you could fit in in the same size crate and the weights are close.

I use Forward Air for most of my shipping of large parts/Pieces. They are reasonable. - JT

What you are looking for is an LTL (Less Than Truckload) carrier. Freight forwarding companies can help you find one or you can contact transport companies yourself (UPS Freight, Fed Ex Freight, Yellow Freight, Hoss Cartage, Central transport, etc). Email me and I can send you a listing of the LTL Freight companies I have on file and their toll free numbers for NH.
If you can find a truck that is already heading in that direction you can save a bunch on the transport fee. Call several and compare pricing. Sometimes you can get them to compete for the business.
Other items that impact pricing:
Residential versus commercial pick-up and/or delivery addresss--residential is quite a bit higher
Is the item on a pallet? IF so, does the receiver have a fork truck or is a liftgate required--liftgate = more cost.
If you can ship from a business address to a business address, on a pallet and with proper shipping and receiving equipment (ie Fork Truck), you will save.
You are going to need commercial shipping documents, ie bill of lading, commercial invoice (stating the declared value for customs purposes), Canadian Customs invoice, and MAYBE a NAFTA Certificate of Origin.
The shipment should go Freight Collect, FOB Origin. This transfers the responsibility to the buyer from the time it leaves your door. The buyer is responsible for Freight and Duties.

it is not as bad as it sounds. Make a few phone calls to get the best rate. Most forwarders will assist with the paperwork.
I have never shipped anything like this across so I have no idea what the duty will be..that could be the killer.

No duty on used auto parts. On the canadian side the buyer will be on the hook for a Brokerage Fee ($15-$50) to clear customs and Canadian goods and services tax which for Ontario is 5% of the declared value. You can undervalue it slightly but on something this size Canada Customs can arbitrarily set a value, charge the tax and let the reciever argue if he doesn't agree.
Now you know why I ship to a NH address and go down and pick stuff up....

Thanks Zubbie. Always good to learn something new!
I would agree that a pick up truck and a road trip would be the better way to go.

Really easy, call a local freight forwarder, they have a board to post stuff on and can find you a driver with LTL for your to and from locals, but you need a warehouse to unload and load at or one that has a local warehouse you can pickup and drop off at.
Customs forms are easy a bill of sale in triple adn use a local broker, pay the duty and or taxes which are not much ,just make sure the bill says USED AUTO PARTS.
I import adn export out of Canada every week.
