Is it expensive? Would a cop pull me over for it? I live in new jersey and the law says that you can't have any window tinting, but i see cars with tinted windows all the time with NJ plates.

The law also states you can't kill people, but people do it anyways....:stickoutt

Yeah, but if a cop passes by while you're killing someone, chances are he'll stop and ask some questions (maybe shoot you?). But people pass by cops all the time with tinted windows.
Basically, why are you asking? If it's illegal, you can get pulled over. People have tint because they are willing to take the chance.

Check the law. According to some act in 2003 any amount of tint can be applied to the rear window and rear side windows but absolutely no tint is allowed on the front side or the windshield. They also can't have any metallic element in it.

in IL, we are allowed anything for the rear doors and rear windshield but nothing in the front... personally, i will be getting my car tinted 35% on all the doors and 20% on the rear windshield... that is only because i always roll with my windows down in the summer and i risk it in the winter (think about it, will a cop really pull you over when it is freezing outside so that he could bare the elements while i am sitting cozy?)
either way, i have gotten several tickets for tint in the past and i either get out of it by showing an old picture of my car without tint at court or i pay the small fine of around $20 in IL...
also, if you speed and get pulled over, tint will just be another bonus ticket for them to write and knock out 2 birds with 1 stone...
in the end, it all depends on the police

my state is 35% i think. All i know is that my tinting is going to follow my friends unmarked police cruiser that is to legal spec. So I will be going to the same shop.

250$ PER WINDOW, I think is ticket in MA for illegal tint, anything on the rear doors and rear window, 35% on the front doors and nothing on the windshield.
My friend had 2.5% on all except the front windshield of his black Lincoln LS, never got pulled over, when he saw a cop he would just crack all the windows open and full open the sun roof, sold it to some tool who got pulled over a week later and would have gotten a fat ticket but the cop let him tear the tint off on the highway haha.

Here in Arizona the tint level is ANY in the rear and 30% front and no windshield tint. I guess you can pull it off better when your in very warm states since the cops are more lenient, but thats from what ive seen over here.

Okay, what about pricing? Or a good place to go and get it done.

Mine cost $200. Got it done at a local beat shop w/ lifetime warranty. Make sure they use 3m film or don't get it done at all.

I looked up and the law says you can't do anything on windshield and front side windows in NJ but you can use darkness on back side and rear window. I live in MD and If I were to get my car tinted, I would probably go with 20% all around (35% is max allowed ) but I don't have the $$$ for it right now hehe.
Unless you drive like a maniac cops have much better things to do than give you a ticket for tint.

Don't go crazy stupid dark and you probably won't have a problem. If you are pulled over put the front windows all the way down right away regardless of the weather out side. The reason for the limit is so the cop can see that you are not a threat. If you "hide" behind them and spook the cop you are more likely to get harrased about it. I've been pulled over before with darker than legal tints on the side windows and never been questioned on it. Lucky maybe but taking the windows out of the equation when he walks up goes a long way.
