What's the point of taking a good handling car to the drag strip?

What's the point of taking a bad handling car to the drag strip? To go fast. Duh.

My turn to ask a question. Is it really cheaper to buy a Porsche than to have penis extension surgery?

Whats the point of dragging any car??
It's cuz its ** FUN. We all do things with our cars because it's fun right?
It's like asking you if you have ever done a burnout in your "911" or raced your car. I could be like whats the point of beating on a Porsche. It's not what they are made for.....

Dumb question dude.

Well, turns out bimmers have some straightline speed as well. So why would you take a fast car to the strip?

Mindboggling!

E36 best car for drag racing strong chassis and handling ....

And now the pendulum has swung in the other direction from the OP. The E36 is not the "best" car for drag racing by any means. Increased camber under rear suspension compression. Can't fit any decent tire under the rear. Weak axles and driveshaft. Torn subframes...

Who cares how it handles when going in a straight line? And the chassis and drivetrain certainly has its weak spots.

I already reinforce the subframe with reinforcement places and bushing and also reinforce rear camber arm and aluminum busing for Diff cover. Now I’m waiting for UUC support Diff bracket to arrive. :buttrock

Because not everyone has a road course readily availible and curvy roads are a little risky. If you must go fast legally, where else?

Plus, thats where the oh so JDM 16 second civics hang out....and those are always fun to beat up on.

Hey even I can beat those!:D

Also any day I can go triple digit speeds and not get a ticket is great.

There are cars better suited for draging than BMW's.

-Like Mustangs and Supra's.

On the flip side, BMW's make better track cars than most Mustangs and Supra's.

Then again people drag Honda's, so I guess there are no rules.

Supra .. unibody, IRS, inline 6 cylinder 6 speed tranny. Same platform as BMW M3.

Not sure what Mustang you mean but a live axle Mustang has an advantage over a late model BMW with IRS.

None of the above are as good as lots of other cars I can thik of as a base platform for drag racing.

But what you need to understand is that late model BMWs are awesome for drag racing. Because we do it and we like it!

over here, in Germany, not many BMW drivers like Drag Racing.
there are much more FWD cars on the track.

why? i don´t know.
but if you find one it´s an E30 ;o)

I like drag racing because it is simple and fun. Even a slow bmw can win at brackets. I usually end up making more money a year from winning brackets than I spend for entry fees.

As for going fast it is a simple matter of money and desire to go fast. Any car can be modified to drag race, but figuring out the setup will cost time and money.

I don't complain about the import FWD who comes out to race. If they weren't racing there would be no events catered to imports at most of the drag strips.

Incorrect. You have to qualify for the bracket first and it's the best ETs that qualify highest.

The faster you go, the more fun it is. A stock automatic 325 can't be much fun to drag race.

I think we are talking about two different type of bracket racing here. I am not talking about brackets such as ET based qualifying. I am talking about bracket racing, which if your car is slow you simply go in the slow bracket. There is no qualifying for bracket racing itself, even a 19 sec car will fit in a bracket.

This may be a point of difference in rules, but the comps I've attended there are the following rules:

+ 12.99 is the slowest ET that is permitted (ie if you're 13.00 or slower then you don't get to race)

+ Even for the slower brackets there are a finite number of slots (ie 8 or 16 or 32, etc). If there are more cars than slots, then you qualify starting with low ET down to the cutoff.

Maybe you're not talking about championship racing but some casual thing arranged at your local drag strip? Or maybe the rules are different where you are.

Zen S14

Yeah there are different bracket classes in the US. Super ET, Pro ET and Street ET. The Street ET can be cars running from 11.5-19.99.

Indexed racing requires your car to run a minimum of certain time or less and is heads up competition. ET racing is footbrake handicap based racing. I was refering to the Street ET class in my case. I've been in a few of those races and you don't need a super fast car to compete.
