so today i spent a good 2-3 hours on my car, its going to be resting for a couple of weeks as i gather parts and take it apart, and put it together. today i took out the intake manifold. i was told it wasn't too hard, and it wasn't but some parts were just annoying. otherwise it went pretty well. i just opened the hood and went at it. As most of you said i should probably change the valley pan gasket, its a good thing i went along and ordered the parts. coolant was coming out, and it looks pretty messy. i'm going to swap to a b40 intake manifold & throttle body, and also change my fuel injectors. here are some pics of the valley pan, fuel injectors, how my car stands now and so on. sorry about the crappy pics, crummy cell phone quality. as you can see there was a lot of carbon build up on the stock injectors. tomorrow comes removal of water pump & valley pan.

how much difference does swapping the intake manifold and throttle body to a b40 intake manifold & throttle body, does it increase in power at all, just a curious question cause ive bin tryin to find a different intake manifold for the longest time now

well dont you have a 540i? i was told that you get some good power increase in a 530i with the b40 intake manifold (its different than the b30), the throttle body (bigger diameter by 10mm i think), and bosch disign III injectors (4 spray holes compared to a single in the stock one, also 19lbs). im just doing it because i got injectors, the intake manifold & throttle body for just about $150 or maybe even less. i couldn't refuse. plus i was going to work around that area as well with the valley pan and water pump. i'm not looking for very serious gains.

well these are supposeably upgrade injectors. i bought them from SchnellerE34 on this board. he had a thread up not to long ago about selling sets of injectors and they are only 7$ each with shipping. you should probably pm him because he knows a lot, and he helped me figure out what to do with my car.

good job on taking it upon yourself! lol how did you like pulling those clips off the injector harness? ;) while your at it check your knock sensors to see if any boots are cracked. i replaced 2 sensors b/c i didt want to pull the intake again. also nows a good time to clean your intake ports. stick some paper towles in the ports while your working around that area too, you dont want to drop something down into the chambers and not notice...until you start the engine...
also replace all your gaskets including the one behind the throttle body to manifold and do your pcv plate

thanks! i think one or 2 of my knock sensors have a crack in them. should i definetly replace them? and if so how much are they? i've already cleaned the intake ports on my new manifold, and i bought the manifold used for $80 and its in fabulous condition. better than mine, and all the gaskets look good. ofcourse i'm replacing the valley pan, and intake manifold gaskets. i pulled off the water pump today, and i have to order some o-rings on monday.

WOW the one on a 525 - 6 cyl is much eaiser. I can take it off in 15 min..
I have pulled it to do the starter. Plus taken it off to fix the vacume hose under the intake.
Guess I need to look more at the V 8s to see whats involved Re repairs and complexity of the engine.

I do everything blind folded under the intake. :lol
On topic-looking good. Glad you're doing it right by replacing everything.
