worst night of the e34 ever.
first- leaving school two exhaust hangers broke. -quickly fixed with some wire.
then- this late afternoon- im heading to a college party at quinnipiac, and before i can even leave town, the car decides it wants to puke some oil before i can drink till i puke.
its dark out so i have yet to find out from where. FRICK
in between- decide i need a taco bell break to ease this stress.
after- i decide i cant drive the car around like this leaking oil- so i put it in
5th and drive it at about 2k rpms to my house to consume the taco bell
on the way- mr. police officer pulls me over and gives me a speeding ticket. i tried to be polite and appologize, so he only put me down for doing 41mph rather than sixty something and tailgateing in the rain with straight pipes from the cat back. i again appologized and when he handed me back my license and registration i offered him a bean burrito. but he declined. :dunno
now. im at home- on a firday- veryy pissed at my e34. she needs a time out. i think my car needs behavior modification classes. :nono

You would be even more pissed if the cop accepted and ate your burrito, then you would be at home with a broken car a speeding ticket and no burrito.

well, with spare parts i had kicking around, it was about $25 haha. i guess its not from the cats back, cause it has the resinator still or whatever. i just hacked off the muffler and ran 2" pipe out the back with some sick tips. ill get a sound clip when i can run the car without leaking my $8 a quart mobile 1 15-50 oil.
also id rather give the cop a burrito, knowing if he ever pulled me over again, he'd remember me haha. i mean c'mon, it makes for a good story. plus he could have really gotten me fucked

For the oil leak, is it coming from up front?
XR000mb
11-14-2008, 09:02 PM
gushing from somewhere. dripping down the right side of the oil pan. guessing near the filter housing or somewhere under the intake mnifold. hmm

I won't be surprised if its the pressure relief valve caps.

I'm less than a mile from Quinnipiac and there's nothing going on here.

Hopefully its nothing to serious.
XR000mb
11-14-2008, 09:26 PM
doubt it is. i think i mighta just knocked something outta place
russiankid
11-14-2008, 09:34 PM
Well there really isn't anything you can knock out of place to cause oil to pour out.
XR000mb
11-14-2008, 09:46 PM
well, my car was dripping oil before, but i scourced the issue, just a loose bolt. now its leaking elsewhere. so i wonder if i loosened something up or knocked something outta place.

It's probably a broken part.

Haha damn dude that's a heck of a night. That isn't too bad though, my friend slid his E36 off the road, bent a rim, couldn't move it, and is now in jail for driving without a license. Yeeeah.
Be thankful, at least you get to sleep at home tonight with a car that moves. :D

Is that your expert opinion?

same kind of oil leak happened to me about a week and a half ago, does it look like this under the car: Pic 1: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7567/picture004hm6.th.jpg (http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture004hm6.jpg)http://img440.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
Pic 2: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2470/picture005gm2.th.jpg (http://img217.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture005gm2.jpg)http://img217.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
What happened to me: I changed oil and filter couple days before and driving home I smell burning oil. Got home, looked like those pics. My problem was I accidently left the old washer on the oil filter bolt as well as the new one. Removed the old washer and only left the new one on (idk how I didn't catch that when changing filter...). Anyways, look over your filter and make sure the bolt is tight (not too tight). If it looks anything like those pics, the oil is leaking from the front and wind is moving it behind the engine bay area. I hope this helps, best of luck!

bingo. that would make sense, because the one i got with the oil filter kit from napa was junk and i had oil all over housing, so the other day i put another washer i has lying around on it, it was bigger and overlapped the inlet, now i dont have oil around the housing. but that looks exactly like my problem right there. where would the oil be pouring out of if not the top of the housing?

Well I would suggest cleaning all the oil/residue off the bottom of the car with w/e sprayer you can get your hands on before starting the car back up. Start the car back up after cleaning, let it run a few minutes (maybe drive half a block or so), and check back for leaks. If you did an oil filter change recently, that was probably all you need to do is change out that NAPA washer. Like I said, this happened to me and I don't have a major problem anymore. I say major b/c I have a leaky gasket I'm still trying to find. Hope I've been of help, cheers!

I'll have to check my car when I get home, but I'm pretty sure that is burned oil around the filter, and there is even more on the hose. So possibilities.... 1) Filter washer b/c it look a little different than stock (looks too big, but I'd have to check tomorrow) 2) Leaky hose
Can anyone check in their filter and see if the washer and rest of setup looks the same?
