Actually two different issues. Lately on my 91 525i, when I start the car, as th engine cranks, Ill hear a weird sound up front. The ony way I can describe it is you remember those cars we had as kids that you pull back and let it go, the wheels would go wwwWWWWIIIIRRRRRRR :redspot, that kind of gears unloading sound? Well, I get that as the engine starts.

Also, second thing. Growing up in Texas Ive never really had to deal with really cold weather, but this morning was our first hard frost and my clutch pedal, for lack of a better word, was kind of limp. It still worked, just felt like it had a little less spring to it. But by the time I got to work and all was warmed up, it was back to normal. Normal or issues?

Starter going out, perhaps?

This is normal by my experience. Any the time the car is started below 35F the clutch is a bit sluggish for a minute or two. Driving at -30F, the clutch rises so slowly that each shift takes around three seconds.

change the fluid... it is hydroscopic and will absorb humidity, leading to viscocity changes with varying temps.

even below 5 below freezing it should feel fine.
