So I filled up my tank today for the first time since buying the car and I get to work and notice the fuel gauge is close to the 3/4 mark :confused My drive is only 20 miles so i think to myself my mpg's can't be THAT bad even with my heavy foot and 4.10 gears

I go in to the office to pee and figure if there's a slow leak i'll see it when i go back out. Sure enough there's a small puddle of gas on the right rear side :( So i go back in to the office and jump Bfc and start looking for gas tank leak issues and notice that some of you guys have had issues with leaks over 3/4 full tanks. I went out to lunch and hoped that i still had at least a 1/2 tank in there and sure enough the needle was resting right on the 3/4 mark. Man I wish I would have noticed one of those threads before! :jedicryin

That's the easy fix. The safe and legit fix is to either find a used tank for cheap and throw it in, or simply find your hole and patch it.

That is the plan from now on.

I figure there's a leak by or on the fill tube since it was dripping from that area. But I have no idea what the tank looks like around there.

soap is an acceptable temp fix until you can fix it correctly if it is a pinhole.

rub a bar of soap over the hole... done

old school trick.

Interesting, i've never heard that before. The gas doesn't eat away at the soap or anything?

not for a while. soap is not very soluble in gasoline...very soluble in water though (car wash, rainy day, etc)

What kind of soap? Body soap? Sensitive skin face bar? Zest or Dove? Sooo many options! :)

+1 - irish spring might be a throw back, but old spice goes way back (like lawn chairs).
