View Full Version : Rear "Sport" Seats

I am looking to shave some more weight off the car. I am thinking that my current seats are too comfy. I want that bucket seat anyway caz my fat ass is rolling and spilling all over the place.
Since I don't usually drive friends (they don't have the guts to drive in my car), I might want to take off that bench at the back. I have a feeling like these are about 40 Kilos at least. However, I may want to keep some function.
Is it possible to get something ass-worthy and light to replace these rear seats?
Thanks.

Most sport buckets are heavier than your stock rear seat, and then you'll need to extend your steering column and pedals to reach them from the rear seat, more extra weight, might wanna rethink the whole premise?

LOL, I didn't mean to be able to reach them from the rear seats, I am 5'9", I barely reach as it is! I just want to replace my front seats with front "sport" seats and the rear seats with something sit-able.
I took a second look at my rear seats. They may be lighter than 40 KG's but I still think all these springs, padding, frame and don't forget the lost coins (I bet I got roughly 10 Euro there) are counter-perscribed to speed.
The fools that have done the mistake to sit in my rear seats don't need a bucket. They just need to sit on something which isn't a power cable or an LSD (I hope you can see when I am just being sarcastic).
BTW, I thought bucket sport seats are light? How much does one weight?

I would venture to say the rear stock seats will most likely be your lightest solution, next to simply removing them. There is not really much there.
Adding buckets is possible, but then what are you going to do when you need to get at all the nice stuff bmw puts under your rear seats? I guess you could always put quick releases on the buckets, but again..... More work.....
The weight saving just is not worth it if you ask me. Especially since, after you pull all the modifications in, you will most likely have more weight then when you started, less functionality, and a lot of time invested.
Track car.... Different story.... Just remove the rear seats.... But this is a street car.....

I wouldnt replace the rear seats I would just take them out
if you really want to reduce weight replace the front seats...i havent personally taken mine out but i have heard they weight 75+ pounds
but i would only do that if i had black interior...sport seats in any color wouldnt be that great looking IMO

My E36 "lightweight" front bucket is 25 lbs. heavier than my E30 sport front bucket.

Trying to put this the most polite way possible, but if you want a lighter car, it'll be far easier to run that "fatass" off than it would be to strip the interior.

That's right. I can use a of drop 40-50 pounds on myself as well... Talk again next winter about that!
Wamdu about the seats: I will take them off and put some pads instead. I really want to take them out completely but you never know when you might encounter 3 Swedish underwear models (in their working clothes) looking for a ride (and a drive home, too).

Put them in the trunk

But seriously, there's not much to the rear seats, just take 'em out. If you really think you need them, then leave 'em in.
