Hey boyz, did a search came up with nothing.
So I notice the other day oil coming from the housing of the oil filter, I look and see the gasket is gone. I decided its time maybe for a early oil change (about 5,000 miles). So I do the whole thing changed the filter, new gasket and still leaking. What do you guys make of this?
Thanx in advance

which gasket are you talking about? Number 6 or number 4 in this pic

if number 6 was replaced and its still leaking the problem could consist of either the crush washers are leaking oil numbers 10 in the picture or two pins on the oil housing that can be faulty that are causing the leak....

Number 4. the one that comes with the filter. its leaking from the cap. It leaks pretty bad too. not just a little tiny bit, a constant stream. I may have an idea. Long ago I has a very old filter break apart inside the housing. The hard bottom part of the filter may still be inside of the housing. That particular oil change I had some trouble getting the cap on tight. I had no problems with leaking until now. Could maybe that remaining peice be messing something up? the car twists on just fine and seems to be torquing down normally.

oh i see, i had the leak from the other gasket... well maybe that actual thread on the cap might be messed up causing the leak... other than that im clueless sorry...

I guess I can try the cap. Any way to check the cap, or must I just replace it?

Don't use STP filters as they give you small o-rings that make it leak.

I just bought an oil filter and an o-ring from the dealer. The o-ring was about 9 bucks, and the filter was about 17 bucks.
The stupid dude from the dealer didn't tell me that the filter came with an o-ring and the copper washer, so now I have 2 o-rings. oh well.

hah. interesting. i've had the same leak from the same gasket for the past 2 months. i have tried 2 different gaskets and still leaks a bit. my cap however has a small piece of plastic broken off from one of the threads. could that be it? it is very small but..hmm check yours. plese let me know if you get a new cap and will fix the prob

So here is the conclusion....
Had a dream one night about all three of the cars getting in an accident. I woke up and had a bright idea for a repair on the car. The next day I tried it out. I got the cap and put some piping (plumbing) tape on the thread of cap. It worked!!!! so i figured the cap was messed up. I buy a order a new one and install. No bananas. I guess I will roll around with my taped up old one until I have another dream.
oh ya, the new cap I got was not like the old on. it threaded fine, but there was a very large gap toward the top, the o-ring was loose in it, so i slid it higher. As i thightened the cap the o-ring spread (like my wife's legs) and leaked.

Same problem with mine. I had my car leak oil from the housing and it leaked for months! couldnt figure it out! then one day i decided to chnage out the gasket on Number 6! after done and all... it steal leaked! so after hours of staring at the housing... I figured that i put the o-ring wrong!! make sure that the 0-ring DOES not fit in between the cap and the housing where it will be squashed when closed. There is a groove in the cap, in the thread, where the 0-ring is supposed to go. I felt so stupid.... Hopefully yours is the same problem, just pretty much placing the o-ring incorrectly. if it is, than its an easy fix.
