323i or 325i?

I've decided to look for a second hand 323i or 325i... I understand that the 325 has a 3 litre engine while the 323 a 2.5 straight six?

I'm pretty keen on going with the 323i as I believe it will be lighter on fuel yet still have plenty performance.

My questions are :

1) How long do these engines last up to how many miles typically - are they pretty reliable? Buying second hand means that most of my ownership will be outside of motorplan period...

2) How much would it cost for recon just for interest sake so I can get an idea of costs?

3) Any experiences with 323i e90?

i just got my 06 325 and im getting about 22 city mpg so far... should be somewhere around 28 on the hwy im sure... Its got 215hp which is plenty and is the same motor as the 330 basically with a different intake manifold. We dont have 323's here in the US so im not sure anything about those...

06 325i I am averaging 31-32 MPG Hwy and 22-24 city love this car :)

I bought mine with 48K on her it all about how well it was taken care of and this one you can tell is mint, I have bought 5 ,3 series and love the engine :)

Loving it so far, you can't go wrong with either I believe, it is all about how much you are willing to spend.
