E39 black kidneys

from DDM. Are they a good quality? or r they cheap plastics like ebay's? I am just not sure if it will make the car look more aggresive...what do you all think about black kidneys on black? mean, huh,..? :)

I ordered some black kidneys off ebay and they were complete crap.
The finish was cheap looking and they didnt fit correctly.

I then ordered my next set from DDM and they are wayyy better than the ebay ones. DDM's are a true matte black finish.

Refer to Dans pictures for black on black comparison. Looks great.

They el cheapo's from fleabay. They're not 'factory fit' but overall I'm satisfied. I think if anything ever happened to them, I'de get my next set through DDM though.

i painted mine. Matte black trim paint from Autozone for 5 bucks. Sweet deal.

well my problem with painting them is that, even though they might look good, the paint will chip over time because of the little stones and debree on the road. so the grills/kidneys will be covered with white dots...at least that's what happened with my previous car. then of course there were no aftermarket grills for it, so i had to make my own...and it did look sweet.


btmlinedan, where did you get the part to replace the license plate holder for your front bumper? and the lip/splitter, is that off of ebay? i just dont know if i should get that done to my car, or go with an M5 front bumper... i like yours a lot. thumbs up :)

lip : get one of ebay oem style or buy an oem one at the dealer. it's a lip, it's gonna get chipped, i'd just say get the ebay style

license plate delete : get at the dealer

and my grills haven't chipped yet...had them for a few months now.

ok. so i guess I will be safe with the DDM grills.

how much were the plate delete and the lips from the stealer? just wanna compare prices. i didnt know they carried those lips? other than quality, how are the different from ebay's designs?

you won't be able to tell the difference, and the look all depends on how well you install it.

btmlinedan - i ordered the black grills last night. Cant wait to get them, imo it will look sick.

I called a local dealer and he said the plate delete was $18, but according to him, it didnt have to be painted. true or not? do you have a part # since he might have given me the wrong part.

I also asked about the lip. He gave me part number 51118216706. I looked at it online and it doesnt look like your lip....

btw, what r ur taillights? i am debating of whether to smoke mines or just buy them from somewhere.

you have an 01 so the lip will be a little different for your car, as they have different bumpers.

the strip doesn't need to be painted, and i have no idea what the p/n is.

tailights are smoked depo lenses-- i'm not sure if you can get the smoked depo ones since you had an 01 with actual LED taillights. I would recommend buying the smoked hella's, and selling off you oems.

i painted my oem grills and then buffed them out, imo they look amazing and turned out much better then i expected. the gloss and reflection is definately there and they are OEM fitment which is the best part.

i was just curious coz i am not familiar with the e39, so as i am searching, researching and etc, i tend to ask many questions :) but dont be surprised if one day my signature is the same as yours :)

the lip - look at the number i listed above. it looks like a rubber line that goes near the splash shiled. nothing to do with a splittler...imo
