hey im just starting for looking for a new car and i really want a diesel bimmer.. what are the most common and easily found models?
thanks
phil
E28 524td. For the money you could probably also get a more common (and manual) VW or MB w123/124/126/201. 190D 2.5 beats the 524 IMO.

If you are looking at cars from the 80's, the mercedes diesels are more popular and easier to find and maintain for that reason.
I have a 1985 300D feel free to ask any questions.
The US imported 524td was only available with an automatic transmission. If you are looking for a mileage machine, go with a newer VW Jetta tdi. Only marginally smaller inside, widely available, much better fuel mileage.
That being said, there are 524td's around, but you may need to travel to get one. There seems to always be a couple on eBay.

Any idea how many of these have a stick? I was suckled on a 240D/4 and would be tempted to give up the E34 if a nice 300D came along. The W123 is one of the best thought out cars of all time IMO :)
