CAN I EMAIL the photos to someone who can host/post them? I am apparently at my limit of 'attachments' and can't post but one photo. Let me know...

The last of my cabin noises is now totally eliminated. My sunroof used to clunk over potholes or bumps in the road, at certain speeds it would rattle like a tuning fork and it drove me nuts. Turning the radio up didn't help.

Tools needed: T-10 and T-20 Torx, Synthetic Brake Grease, Chain Lube, Gummi Pflege or some type of Rubber Care (prefer Gummi Pflege), 150 Grit Soft Sponge of Sandpaper, Towels and 30 minutes.

1). Sitting in car, tilt sunroof into UP position.
2). You'll see rubber bellows on either side of the sunroof. They are bone dry and we know that rubber touching rubber, or metal or glass can squeak. Liberally lube the rubber with Rubber Care (I used Meguairs and a towel). The rubber will soak it up, give it several coats.
3). Then stand outside the car and leave the sunroof as is, just tilted up. From behind you'll see a rubber strip running parallel to the bumpers of the car. It's rubber and bone dry, give it Rubber Care.
4). You'll also see the front/top of the sunshade and it's cover is plastic, give it some of the Meguiar's Rubber/Vinyl Care (Vinylex Blue would work too).
5). Grab the 150 Grit Sponge Sandpaper. Lightly sand the rear of the sunroof itself. Be careful of the glass and your paint. Your goal is to softly take away any burrs or edges, the dried wax that sits on it and general grime. The edge is made of hard rubber so a light sanding, followed by the Rubber Care will make it jet black again, it'll be fifty times darker than when you found it and the rubber will be very happy. Do the sides of the sunroof too while the sunroof remains in that tilted position, sand and give Rubber Care.
6). Then go in the car and put the sunroof in the Wide Open Position, all the way back.
7). Sitting in the car, sand the front of the sunroof's hard rubber edge, then give several coats of Rubber Care.
8). Then stand outside the car. Grab the T-10 Torx and remove one screw. Take it out, lube it with synthetic grease and re-insert it tightly. All ten of them are loose, trust me. They can be simply tightened, yes, but I prefer to remove, lube and re-insert all ten of them.
9). Then grab the T-20 and remove, lube and tighten the front screws in the corners, which hold the tracks down.
10). Apply synthetic grease to tracks.
11). Note the long spring HIDDEN within the track...apply the Bicycle Chain Lube liberally.
12). Grab 150 Grit Sandpaper Sponger and lightly sand the hard rubber trim mounted on the roof, which the sunroof sits against. You'll see how dry and dirty it is...then give several coats of lube.
13). Close sunroof.
14). Take her for a spin. :buttrock

I didn't have any broken parts in my roof and I suspect most of us will see a 90% reduction of noises from the sunroof with this procedure. See pics below. All of these parts interact and they are all very happy now, as I am with a 100% noise-free cabin. My sunroof is now silent.

hey.. can i ask, what do you mean by lube the Torx screws? wouldn't that allow them to slide out again with vibrations from the car? wouldn't it make more sense to apply some loctite instead so they don't come loose again? just wanting clarification...

question #2, is this the Meguiar's product you used?:

i think my motor is bad, when i press close the motor spins and works, but when i click the open button nuttin no sound no nuttin, when i press close the motor spins the gear and it grinds on the matching gear on the sunroof, will replacing the motor fix the problem or do i have broken sunroof arms, my sunroof is slightly tilted up but no water gets in.
