I know I know, a simple stupid little thing. I changed the shift knob on my car. I got a ACS replica ball style shift knob.
Feels great for a replica. Has a little bit more weight than my M knob, feels more crisp with the shifting.
Now I just need to get a Z3 short shifter. I hear they are a PIB to install though.
Just a reference as to what knob I got, obviously mine is in an E36 that is manual.

is it possible to install that short shifter in less than an hour?
When I had my GTI it took me about 5min to change it to a short shift.

It's definitely amazing how much difference a nice shift knob can make, it's a piece to the whole puzzle that I like to call the "driving experience" ;)

I'm looking into a SSK, but I got a shifting knob that's roughly 70% of the old one in height, and I'm shocked at the difference it makes. I can't wait to get my SSK!
I'm totally with you on this one!

your shift knob is actually shorter? I want to actually maybe cut some of my existing selecter rod to make it more of a stub. I was thinking of taking off 1.5 inches. Idk if that will screw anything up though.

dzlnitro, if you're just changing the shift lever, I've done that in less than a half hour. Changing all the bushings and the linkage with the driveshaft on is what is a real PITA.

Word, you think you may be able to help me out, or do you know of any DIYs, i'm just gonna buy the z3 shifter. I think it has all the bushings and what not installed on it already, so i'll just be changing the shift lever.

+1 BMW's Perf Short shift kit does indeed impact driving; definitely worthwhile! I was skeptical about the difference it would make, but first week in car made a believer out of me (and it would be awful hard to go back).
