My wife and I just took a 2100 miles round trip for the birth of a new grandson:)
On the trip up we averaged 31.7 mpg and 31.3 on the way back. We were both really excited about this as we drove between 75 and 90 mph most of the time. Really saved money as well on gas since our former vehicle got about 23 highway.
Just thought I'd share what great mileage this thing can get.
Even though I'm sure you all know that already;)

Thanks for posting. I too have noticed this on mine with 3000 miles on it, right in the low 30 range. Interesting how it's better than the mileage it was advertised with, right?!? Gotta love these 3.0 non-turbo charged babies. :)

Actually they list the 328 at 28mpg on the freeway, which if you look at the sticker is an average of a range. I get about that with the 335 on the freeway :)

I get about 33 mpg at around 55 and 30 mpg at 70-75. Great..

My personal best is 38 mpg (6.2L/100km) by maintaining the speed at from 50 mph (80km/h) to 62 miles per hour (100km/h). I think the 328i is the most fuel efficient at speeds of 75km/h to 110kmh. Anything above or below that the fuel economy drops.

My mileage is terrible. In fact I actually kept track from my last fill, it said about 423 of a full tank, but the estimated miles goes down faster than the actual number of miles driven. I blame it on ethanol, which is probably also wearing out my fuel lines.

Figure it the old fashioned way. Note odometer at fill-up.
At next fill-up note the odometer and gallons to fill.
Do the math.......

The old way is highly in accurate. Technically you need to read the amount of gas you put in on the receipt, but I'd say that computer which knows exactly how much to fuel is passing through an injector is way more accurate ;)
The debate comes in if the computer counts sitting at idle or coasting in the MPG. It doesnt' use fuel if you coast in gear (putting it in neutral does) and it might not use the calc if you sit and idle.
