Saw this one at work. 2009 BMW 535i Xdrive is the actual model name. WTF. XDrive badge is below the sidemarker. I thought someone was just messing around putting that badge there, but no. :rolleyes

You can even see it on the pics on bmwusa.com

Hmmm.... I'm seeing there's no such thing as an "xi" BMW anymore. News to me!

Absolutely nothing. That's why they changed it. It's what BMW has been doing best lately.

The reason is because BMW wants people to make the connection between all the all-wheel drive models (ie the connection between the X5, X3 etc and the all wheel drive cars). They call it Xdrive and its just a marketing ploy, pure and simple.

BMW sucks now, and has been sucking for a while now.

most people dont know how to read the model tags so an ugly X tag is necessary for those with more money than appreciation for fine cars

Bingo. People don't know what the numbers and letters on the back of cars mean. Period. How many times have you heard people call BMWs 700 series, or make threads asking what the letters mean. BMW is letting the uninformed masses know that they make an AWD car, just like nearly every other car manufacturer.

Honestly...it looks really cheap...no offense to those who like chrome...but it's like putting chrome wheels on a BMW...it cheapens the look of it.

When the first ones rolled off the truck onto our lot, I looked over several of them and couldn't believe how cheap that little xdrive logo looked. In person it looks like someone bought a cheap aftermarket logo off ebay and glued it to the side of their 40k car...

They have an X-drive driving game at BMW Welt in Munich. Pretty neat. I guess it's just the replacement for the Xi models.
