View Full Version : Deal on 2008 335xi demo - should I buy?

Just came back from a dealer looking for a 335xi sedan and they offered me 45,800 (800 below invoice). My concern (and it is a major one) is that this was the sales manager car, he said the usual nobody drove this car except me and my staff blah blah... it is a good deal but what should I be worried about? I was offered the same price on a lease but I'm not the greatest fan of leases.
Black/Beige loaded with premium, cold weather, nav, sport and is an auto.
5200 miles.
Any feedback is appreciated since me and my girl are going back tomorrow with a decision!

Dude, as with any used car it's used! You never know how the people that drove it treated it. I also bought an 07 335xi used two months ago with 7500 miles. So far so good. Take the chance, you're good until 50K miles. Is it a CPO? Probably not with such low mileage.

I bought an '08 E90 335XI for invoice in July and an '08 e92 335 XI for invoice + 800. You should be able to get an '08 for invoice.

I just traded in a 08 335xi w 10k miles for $39k (sticker was $52k). You should be 5k below invoice not $500 horrible deal. Run from it. When you consider all dealers true cost is invoice - holdback, they are still making money on your deal if it was a new car.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback.
It's not a CPO so it's still got the standard warranty, but when we go back tomorrow we're definitely going to bargain for an extended warranty. The big kicker and reason why we're seriously considering it is the 0.9% financing.

800 off is nothing, i would want a couple grand off if it was a demo car, which is a fancy way for USED!

Yea.. $800.00 bucks off is a bit low. I would wait a bit or look into getting a 2009.

Thanks for replies guys... When we go back today going to see if they'll do 43000 including a 7 year warranty w/tire.

Wow, that still seems high for a demo.

Ok please stop! That is a terrible deal on a demo. First of all its a 2008 in 2009 model year. You could get invoice on an 09 with this economy.

Argh did it...
43,500 w/tire warranty
Invoice 46,600
MSRP 50,225
Main reasoning (what will help me sleep at night now) is that this is one of the few remaining in inventory around here, and financed at 0.9%.

I don't know why people think you get 10K off a demo car. You got a pretty good deal with that price.

Yea. that's not a bad price at all. Congrats and enjoy the car.

Actual that isn't true.
Demo cars are not registered and therefore should be still sold "as new" or with a "factory demo" label.

Despite they are sold as new they are USED. Not to mention they are beat on like there is no tomorrow. They are never broken in properly and are abused, why buy one for 43k.

That's not necessarily true. Don't be such a negative Nellie. :(
3K under invoice sounds like you got a pretty nice deal. The main thing is that you are happy with the deal and the car, and you really shouldn't have to worry about anything.
Let's face it guys: most people are not enthusiasts and probably don't follow the break-in guidelines anyway. And as well made as these cars are, even if the engine wasn't properly broken in it will probably still last just as long as one that was treated like a baby. Maybe burn a little more oil...
But there is no reason to assume that a salesmanager or any dealership employee is going to "beat on" a car just because they can. Some people are actually mature responsible adults.:D

Of course they are and why they are 9K off. While I would rather have a new car there is a nice savings from buying a "USED" or "pre owned" car. You let somebody else eat the depreciation.

I agree. Everone and their uncle has been dogging it during demo drives. I took a new 2007 335i for a test drive with the salesman and he told me to stand on it hard. It had only 10 miles on the odometer. I NEVER buy a new car that has been previously driven and has more than the delivery mileage on the odometer; in my case 8 miles.

While I don't doubt that it was driven hard on occasion, I feel like the deal I got is enough to alleviate any issues I may have down the line. It IS a dealership that I trust which to me is the most important thing, and I made it abundantly clear that they will be seeing a lot of me if there is an issue with the car. We both agreed it would be better if that weren't the case.
I'm also sure most BMW drivers start looking for a new vehicle as soon as that warranty/maintenance period is up (and I am one of them), so if I'm covered for everything during that period then I won't let anything that happened before I sat my ass in that seat bother me.
edit: pics as soon as I pick it up tomorrow! Gosh these stock rims are fugly though!

That's not true. You don't have to be an enthusiast to follow the break-in guidelines. :rolleyes

Its ok with me, if you're ok with that deal. Its people like you that I need around so I can get amazing deals. Some people make dealers lose money and some let them make it, its keeping balance. If you're ok with the deal than thats all that should count. Congrats on your new (used/new) car, good luck with it.
