View Full Version : Questions about sounds my car makes
I have 2008 328. I had for a week. I am hearing some kind of water or liquid dropping sound after I shut off the engine. The sound is not loud in fact it is a bit of faint sound however you can hear it. There is nothing on the ground. The car has been running for awhile so the engine is hot. The sound goes away few minutes later. Is this some type of cooling sound? Is this normal?

What would lead you to believe that this sound isn't normal?
I am just curious. This is my first BMW. I had Lexus and they all have knocking sound after engine shut off. However this one is a bit mute/faint but same pattern (goes away after few minutes).

you will hear all sorts of noises after the engine is shutoff and they are all normal including the WOW that you may echo every once in a while :). Welcome to the BMW family.

My BMWs make all kinds of noises after you shut it off, all normal. The engine cooling, fluids settling, etc.

My 00' M Coupe is the first BMW I've ever owned, but driven hundreds of them (used to work at a dealership) so kinda knew about the car being noisy after a drive.
When I park in the garage it echos.. all the clicks and clanks.. for some reason i like to stand there and watch her make noises after a fun filled drive.
Thanks for all your feedback. One other thing is that while driving time to time I hear very faint spinning sound. It is very faint and high pitch. I heard it is fan cooling sound for electronic box. Did anyone notice the sound? What is the typical sound for driving for new 328? Low-end growling sound at very low RPM?
I had new 2008 328 for a week. While driving, time to time I hear very faint and high pitch spinning sound. Once again it is very faint and you can not even notice during busy day time however at night or quiet stop sign you could hear it. I heard it is the cooling fan for the electronic box. Does anyone experience this sound? What are the typical sound during driving? Low-end growling sound at low RPM?
Anyone experience this? I have new 2008 328 for a week. I am hearing sort of motor spinning sound when car gets warmed up. It does not happen when I start driving however after a while I can hear something kicks in and hear very faint (but noticeable) high pitch motor spinning noises. It seems like second cooling fan or something is kicking in. This morning weather was a bit cool and it mdid not happen for the first 15 miles or so however after few stop and go then it started. When I shut off the engine and re-start then this thing happen for few seconds then shut it off. I took the car to the dealer for road test however I could not duplicate the sound. I will take it in again on Monday. However anyone experience this?

Are you going to open a thread about every sound you hear in your car? Please don't and stop doing that or I will have to take punitive actions. Use a single thread or better yet, get used to the sounds, they are all normal.
I have a 2008 328 for a week. It is a great car however I am hearing a faint high pitch spinning or some sort of motor sound. It does not happen when car is cold however it happens after driving for a while. I can hear this thing kicks in. This morning it was a bit cool and after 15 miles driving (few stop and go) then it started again. During day time, sometimes I can not even notice (with windows down and radio on or busy traffic sound) but it is a bit annoying during quiet morning or night. When I shut down and restart the car then this motor thing starts then shut it off after few seconds. It comes from passenger side of the car. I took the car to the dealer however I had to shut down the car and restart and I could not duplicate the sound. I will try to bringing into the dealer again. Anyone has same experience? I am new to the BMW. I thought I saw a thread regarding this. Someone mentioned something about cooling fan for e-box. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.
I am new to the BMW and a bit concern about the new car that I just purchased. I just posted another thread regarding this without seeing this post. I just wanted to get other people's response regarding this high pitch motor sound.

Being new is not an excuse to ignore the forum rules. Fall in or fall out. Last warning, my patience is running out.
