Style 5 has a plastic centercap....I can polish about anything and plastic is not one that can be done.

Caps on. Those wheels look like poop with the caps off. Lower the car a bit and it should look pretty good. Gold on yellow is a bit odd but kinda cool just get the stance done.

It took me a while to get used but I accualy like the gold 5's on Dakar. I do agree you have a few too many colors goin on. As much as I love frenched fogs, IMO they don't go too well with Dakar, especially with amber corners. I would also go with a little fatter tire in the rear like a 225 just to even up the stretch between the front and back. They should fit no problem with your pulled fenders. And one last thing, tighten your hood screws! That gap is killin me every time I look at the front of your car. Other than that everything looks great man, good job!

Caps on please.

especially since they have bbs emblems.

I agree on the french fogs as well, IMO they only look good on white and black. Which is why I took mine off too.

Other than that, berry nice, I kind of like the stance, no need to go lower, the 18's fill up the fenders nicely.

10-09-2008, 02:04 AM
Nice wheels, and they look great on your car! I think the color combo is actually pretty good (if you switch back to stock fog lights and put clear corners on)...

Now on to the replies...

Nice looking wheels and color scheme!!

Those caps aren't for the 5s are they? In the second picture, the cap is angled, hope it didn't fall out!

Yup, OE caps. It's not angled, probably just the lens making it seem that way.

good stuff bro my fellow staggered 18" style 5 brother from another motha! hahaha i've got the same size front tires my rears are gonna be a bit different but thanks for posting those close up pictures cause it gave me a good picture of what the rear would have looked with the 215's. I'm going with 225/40/18's in the rear. Your setup looks great :buttrock

I'd go 225/35 if I were you, not a fan of 225/40 stretched onto an 18 (looks kinda weird). TJ pulled it off, but his rims are an inch wider.

Keep the caps on please!

For sure, they're only off in that one pic because I just pulled out of the shop. That's a really old pic too, notice the stock rear arches and lack of RS lip.

Jay, I'm deeply saddened to see such a nice car, with nice wheels... with stretched gayness surrounding it. You used to have taste and style. WTH happened?

I kinda of want to explain myself on this topic. I don't particularly like stretched tires at all, I just really wanted the wheels. Given the width and offset, you can't get them on there without the skinny rubber. As it is I still had to get the rear lips flared out, as I was rubbing RIM.

Continuing work on the rear quarters for next Summer is in the cards, expect to see much wider flaring and probably some 245s on. I had already planned to do some paintwork in the Spring, so it will be cost effective that way.

Not all is lost on me, don't worry Mr. Sarette.

18" style 5's FTMFW.
what size hubcentric rings did you use?

You won't need any, 18" Style 5s are off E38s.

bump lookz sick on ur whip. 1 question did u painted ur fogs yellow or did you got a pair yellow i want to change my fogs or maybe put some yellow hids

Yellow Lamin-X on new OEM fogs. I did it this way in case I didn't like the french look, but it's stuck since last July so I guess I do.

Nice wheels, and they look great on your car! I think the color combo is actually pretty good (if you switch back to stock fog lights and put clear corners on)...

but damn, that stretch is FUGLY!!! looks really weird... if you wanna run these wheels, you gotta roll and stretch your rear fenders... otherwise it just looks stupid...

my opinion anyways

Clears look terrible on most E36 colours to me, and I rather like the french fogs.

My rear fenders are already pulled, compare these pics:

http://www.r3vlimited.com/gallery/files/7/7/1/5/12082008540_1280.jpg

See the 90* straight to the ground cut of the arch?

Now look at this:

http://www.r3vlimited.com/gallery/files/7/7/1/5/14153d9b.jpg

...continues flaring outwards right to the edge.

Don't feel bad, I forgive you.

I agree.

http://www.abload.de/img/style5colormatchedq0h.jpg

Not a 100% match, but pretty close and it looks hawt.

Black would have been pretty nice also, I think.

http://www.abload.de/img/style5blackllj.jpg

The Dakar isn't bad at all, I won't rule that out.

As for the black, I already did Nogaro centers on my last wheels:

http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=76353&stc=1&d=1210605204

http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=76358&stc=1&d=1210605288

I'd be concerned about taking a hard turn and popping that damn tire off the bead. WTF were you thinking man? Get some real tires. Otherwise it's a nice setup.

I've driven to 10/10ths and past with these wheels, nothing to worry about there.

Looking to sell anytime soon?:dunno

Not really, given my love for big, deep dish BBS' and the fact that BMW didn't make anything bigger in this style. Maybe a set of those 19" Super RS' I've seen floating around vwvortex...but those are like $4k+. :shifty

Are style 5's two piece?

Yep.

um is this a meet or auto cross event, dakar m takes home the cake either way

It was actually an E30 meet I coordinated (I'm the events guy and also a mod for maXbimmer.com). I couldn't take my E30 out due to lack of insurance, so I brought out the M3 and my new 318Ti M-Sport. :buttrock

thats what i was planning on doing.. :(
just with 17's though

What, staggered? Gold? Eithey way (or both), you really can't lose.

I love it, it's something different.

I know I'm not quoting every piece of praise, but this one sums up my own personal feeling with the car too. Thanks.

And thanks again for all the comments guys, positive or negative (and especially all the guys telling me what to do with my own car, love that for life). I kinda expected the controversy, and it's all good to me.
