Yes, it's one of those threads again. If you don't want to answer, that's cool, but opinions would be helpful.

I'm looking at a 2006 330i sedan, ~20,000 miles, Monaco Blue on Terra, 6MT, Sports Package, Premium Package, Heated Seats, and Aluminum Pedals. The owner is asking $28,800. Is this a good deal for a private party sale on a car like this? Are there any specific problems I should look for in these cars? Also, where should I take it to get inspected? Should I just take it to a BMW dealer, or should I try and find an independent mechanic? Thanks you guys!

that seems around the general area...what upgrades has he done to the car?

if it was me, i would go to your bmw dealership, hire the inspector who does CPO admission, he will know the car better than anyone else. carfax it too. as long as the car checks out, negotiate it if you like it

Talk to your dealer and see what kind of PPI they will perform. Talk to your Indy and see what he will do. Decide which one works best for you. I've seen some really shallow PPIs and some very in-depth; it all depends on the person doing it. Jib's idea might work as well.

Carfax is also a good tool, although it's not a know-all, tell-all, it's better than nothing.

At 20K miles, the car should be nearly perfect and should have no flaws or problems.

The car is stock, except for the aluminum pedals. This is my first time (maybe) buying a car private party, so I have some questions. Do you ask the owner of the car to drive you to the dealer to have it inspected? Do they usually let you test drive it? Also, as you know, when you buy a car from a dealer, they give you the in-transit stickers for until you get the car registered, but how would that work when you buy a car private party?

Another question: what should I expect to come with the car? 2 key fob's, a valet key, the manual, a tool kit? I've heard that some people have flashlights that come in the glove boxes of their car, did the 330's come with those too? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to miss anything. Thanks everyone! :buttrock

You have to register the car and bring the temp tags when you pick it up.

he should drive it there for you, or you both can go.

So I have to register it, even though I don't know if I want it yet? I forgot to add that the car is in Colorado, and I live in Nebraska.

No separate valet key since for valet, you give them the fob and keep the embedded key which you use to lock the glovebox (where the trunk lock switch is located). Yes there is a toolkit in the trunk if you can call a screwdriver and towhook that :stickoutt.
