Ok I have a 96 328i that I am about to replace the engine on. My brothers friend found out I just got a donor car and is willing to pay be a nice price for the car and that will leave me stuck out. However I found a 325 and 318 engine transmission combo with low miles and wonder how hard is it to use one of these setups.

I don't care about the performance stuff I just want to know with wiring and mounts is it a simple swap? Also is the engine wiring something hard to swap out? Thanks.

Edit:

I almost for got can I at least use the auto tranny out of a 318/325 from 95 in my 328? IT has lower miles anyway.

obd2 to obd1 is easy. But then if you have emistions testing you are going to have problems. I would just look into just getting the same m52 engine and keeping it obd2. that comes down to more money for a m52 then a m50 but i dont think it would be the best idea to tear into the car for a smaller engine and problems with emistions. But thats your call. but yes i can be done engine drops right in and you will have to cut out the ews and wire some stuff up
As for the tranny i have no clue

Thank you for that help. He was just offering me a nice premium so I wanted to take advantage. Also the 318 has a low mileage tranny that I would like to buy but I don't know if it will work with a 96 328i.

I can hear that it has thrown a rod and I would rather replace it. I got one quote of $1500 for a partial rebuild but seeing that these are such solid motors I would rather use the 100K replacement. Still my tranny has high miles so I want it replaced at the same time.

Texas checks the OBDII system on originally OBDII cars. You'd fail inspection.
