I need help with a decision. I bought a set of BBS RKs on ebay for $600 shipped. The seller claimed that they were perfectly straight with minor curb rash. When I received them one of the wheels had 2 small bends on the outer lip and on of the other wheels had 1 small bend on the outer lip and a large bend on the inner lip (1/8" deep and 3" long). I am worried that the wheel with the large bend may not balance properly or that the tire may not hold air. I am planning on using these wheels for autocrossing and track days.

I have 2 choices.

1. Keep the wheels and get a $200 rebate from the seller.
2. Ship the wheels back at my expense (~$50) and get a full $600 refund from paypal.

What do you guys think?

Take the wheels to your favorite wheel shop and see what they say. They may even put it on the balancing machine for you (if you're a good customer) and see if it looks true.

For autocrossing, you could get by with a bad wheel. For track days, which are much higher speeds, you want good wheels. Cheap wheels = crash & die.

I bought some used wheels once with "minor curb rash". I guess it depends on how you hit the curb, driving or parking, but in my case one wheel was so bad I had to trash it and buy a new one. In hindsight, it wasn't such a good deal.

I am leaning towards sending them back. I will just have to eat the shipping cost. I guess I learned my lesson that I shouldn't buy anything used before I see it.

bring it to a shop and see how bad it is. and get a price estimate on repairs.

mball, I am across the river from you on HHI. If you decide you don't want them I would like to look at them before you send them back. If you want to keep them I know a good wheel shop in Atlanta that has done work for me. What you have to decide is how much $$$ you want to put into the wheels. Email me at G_H_C@Hargray.com I'll probably be in Savannah this weekend. GH

I sent them back Monday. I didn't want to put any money into them. I learned my lesson about buying wheels on ebay.
