I was doing some searching about lightweight flywheels for the M42 and read one article saying that a good street wise choice would be to use the flywheel and clutch from a 325. I found a guy locally who is parting out his 325is ('94) and he said he'd let me take the clutch, flywheel and all related parts for $150. His car is being parted out because he blew his head gasket and doesn't have the time or money to fix it. I just want to confirm that an M50 clutch and flywheel will fit an M42 and benefit it's performance before I buy it.
Also, if anyone knows of any other parts I should snatch up in this deal, feel free to lay down your suggestions!

Youll get a slighty wider surface area and clamping power. I really wouldnt say its much of an upgrade unless its lightweight. The stock m42 clutch should handle up to 10-15% over stock output. My m50 is ran with the m44 clutch and it takes extreme launches to get that clutch to slip.

The reason it's supposedly better is that it's lighter, since the M42 flywheel is a dual mass flywheel and weighs somewhere around 28lbs, which I think is crazy! I'm just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with this...

All e36 flywheels are dual mass, how is the 325 going to be lighter?

^Thank you, I didn't know that, the post I read seemed to have left that part out...

Your close, the duel mass in my M44 was 26 lbs.
OP if you wanted single mass flywheel you need to go with a E30 clutch pack, starter & flywheel, still weighs 21 lbs but can easily be shaven to 18lbs, also need to take a ridge of the engine block or it'll bind once bolted up.

I think you want the M20 flywheel it's single mass you need also the clutch and starter and i believe a e21 release bearing from a 320

^Cool, thanks again everyone! There's actually another 325 in my area that has a blown trans parting out... I just bought my 318.. but I'm thinking that an M50 motor from that car and the trans from the first one I found would be perfect to start rebuilding for a transplant later down the road... :)
