Hi eveyone, I'm looking to get my first BMW very soon. My first choice at the moment is the 335i, but the salesperson mentioned that the 335d (or was it the 330d) is also a consideration. Does anybody know when the diesel versions will arrive in the US and how will they be priced compared to the regular gasoline versions? Thanks!

Oops, never mind, found the Search button

Does anybody know if it's supposed to be released at the same time as the other 2009 models? Thanks.

hallelujah, at last a smart newcomer :stickoutt. Welcome.
2009s are already here, well almost, but they can be configured/ordered and are being built. The 335d is still no available on the bmwusa.com configurator, so I assume it won't be released at the same time. Maybe later in the year or early 09? Not sure if anyone heard of an exact date.

the latest word is that the 335d will be available over here in Oct/Nov. i would wait on it, and at least drive it before deciding between the d and the i.

That diesel engine is amazing. But I still don't think it is an alternative to the 335i. They are for completely different types of uses. I think that the (330i in Europe/)328i is the real rival.

Still, if you want THE diesel that feels like a gasoline engine (like a 80's-90's one) and sounds pretty good too, then get the 335d!

I've been in an X3 with the same engine while here in Greece. The thing has a TON of torque. Reminds me of an 8 cyl from a dead stop. Takes off like a fiend. If I could afford it, I'd wait and get one new. Unfortunately, I'm a little stuck in that regard.

If you can wait and care for the oil-burner, go for it. Otherwise, 335i is the way to go.

I'll see if I can wait until the d comes out. Feb is a long ways away though :(

Any opinions or experience with the reliability of the 335d compared with the 335i? Not looking to drive them for a decade, but probably 7-8 years, 100K miles? Thanks.

this engine hasn't been out all that long, but ask around on the UK sub-forum, where they've been available for a little while.

diesels in general are very well built, to withstand the tremendous compression forces inside the engine.

any modern motor will easily last 100k miles...
