Lesson 1 Learned from first engine build:
- Label the connectors on the wiring harness when pulling the motor for ease of re-installation.

Well that doesn't help me now, as we got the engine back in the car yesterday, and now I need to figure out the harness connectors and where they live. Anyone have a good idiot-proof resource for which connector goes where, or any tips on accomplishing this task (other than trial/error :))?

Oh and it's an 95 m3 s50

Thanks

There aren't that many connectors that can go into different places. Any specific questions?

There are quite a few 2 prong female connectors on the harness. Not really worried about the 3 prong ones, there's just a few of those.

We can start with the 2 that go on the sensors on the head, there's another under in the intake manifold, to the vanos solenoid. I believe the knock sensors are 3 pronged.

What's the worst that could happen if I do mix up any of the connectors. . . engine just not start?

Any pointers appreciated!

There is a pin-out on this forum somewhere of the ECU DIN plug. You can unplug the connector, disconnect your battery and with a meter(using continuity)you can identify those connectors. It's not that bad, really. Use www.realoem.com (http://www.realoem.com) to identify the sensors.

If I'm not mistaken Techno550 made a post labeling the wires of the 413 ecu din. I know I had to find it to clip a wire regarding anti theft.

As Don said, just check continuity between the main DME connector and each individual connector. It is the best way to be 100% sure.
