Gentlemen and Ladies (if you please)

I need help. I was replacing my regulator motor on my 98 323is (coupe) and the window fell out to the bottom of the door. Now I cannot keep in in the "channel" that is at the front of the car door frame. The leading edge of the window, keeps popping out about midway. The back channel is solid with a brass looking u-shaped channel, but the front looks just like weather stripping. the window will physically move toward the outside of the door, versus popping inward toward the cabin, which causes the regulator arms to pop out of the nylon white sliders.

I have tried to manipulate it back into the groove in the weather stripping, but it keeps popping out after 2.4 hours, i helped it out and disconnected the motor. Pissed.

The rest was going so smoothly...

wtf... is my weather stipping piece loose, or am I missing something.

Thanks in advance.

no takers? It is popping out of the A pillar window channel.

mine was doin the same, one of the white sliders had a small peice broken off one of the corners.
i replaced them both and it has been fine since.
might be a good idea to take them out again and just have a double check!!

I did look at them. snd even swapped them..... The window is poppoing out of the side vertical channel in the a pillar..... not the horizontal channel the window is glued to and the regulator arms snap into the sliders at.......

Are you sure you are getting the window into both the front and back tracks and then popping the sliders in? I thought I had it right, but it wasn't and the front would get off track. That usually happened on first attempt or so to roll it up though.

Did you run for awhile with a broken slider and try to get the window up and down? That can bend the regulator assembly and cause repeated track jumping. Some have had sucess rebending the regulator, most replace it.

Might want to check that the window mechanism is level. I had that same problem with my ti until I started playing with how the entire mechanism was bolted to the door.. there is some play so you can adjust it so the window goes up level or even slightly (and I do mean slightly) tilted fowards to keep it in the track.

The problem is, the window actually floats on both the tracks and the slider that raises it up and down.. if one side of the slider is lower than the other, the window will shift towards it when going up or down

Its not bent.... I am thinking it is not level, or I don't have it completely in the front track. Is there a slider with three wheels on the front like I see in the back....It feels just like a bare window with a rubber weatherstripping like frame around the sheet metal of the door.

This is my experience as well. You think you have it right, go to raise the window, and BANG the white slider pops off.

It's been a good four weeks or so since me and my dad sorted out my driver side window regulator. We had to replace the regulator and in the process of putting it all back together, the window would keep popping out on the way up; each time we'd find a new problem...

Quite a 'right in front of your face' problem was the white slider/clips; weren't fully clipped in, i think there are two clicks in total?
Also, there was a seperate track behind the frame of the door, nearer to the front of the door which you couldn't see; the window wasn't sitting right on that runner leading the window to keep popping out as it moved up..

If i could remember all the problems we came across i'd list them.

BY THE WAY - this was on a compact, so Im not sure if you will have the same issues/more parts as the door (i assume) could be different.. as i know the regulator is a different size?

Hope it helps anyway

just to clarify for those that do run into this tread.... When installing the regulator sliders you will need to hear two pops to know that they are fully engaged... From a auto glass shop owner... Sorry for not getting to this thread sooner, just saw it.

Thanks.... I will try to two pops.... but I think it is similar to compact23 response. How did you get it back the the track, or front channel?

you have to have the sliders off and the regulator almost all the way down, but where you can still see it through the almost worthless front cutout. Then angle the back edge up till you can get the front into the track, then put the back in. Lower the back down till the bottom track is straight, and while using your 3rd hand keep it all level while popping the sliders in.

Temporarily fixed by bending the regulator arms to the outside of the door.

The inside of the door has this channel that has a rubber liner so that the window will go up and down, sometimes that rubber is pushed out and needs to be pushed back, stick your hand inside the door to the very end and u will see the channel just run your hand up it to make sure its all in place.

My passenger door kept doing the same thing. When I first got the car, the window would roll up and down but would fall off track; when I opened the door panel and rolled it up and down, I quickly realized what the problem was; the plastic sliders were broken. I ordered new ones and a couple days later installed them and a tube of white lithium grease later, it did the same thing. F*$%!! (I did both doors, hence the whole tube of grease) The driver door worked and still works perfectly; but after a couple rolls up and down the passenger window kept falling out in the front track. After re-installing and watching and adjusting the regulator arm a little bit, I found that the retainer clip on the slider kept slipping off and allowing the arm to fall off, so the window would fall. I flipped the clip around (instead of pushing it in from the front, I pushed it in from the rear, no pun intended:D, and voila, no more falling out...Not sure if it's your problem or not, but it worked for me! Good Luck!!

Not sure I follow that.

You mean the metal wire that surrounds the white nylon clips hole?

Sorry, I am slow.

Yes, the metal retaining clip that slides in the slot to lock it in place. I flipped it around and no problems.

wow... ok, trying to think why that would matter, but it is worth a try if I run into trouble again.

BTW, nice avatar.

She's alllll mine :redspot:redspot:D:D:D

I don't know why it would matter either, only thing I can think of is that it caught on something from the other direction. Dunno, but it worked...

Alright bringing this thread back-- My window is falling off the front track every time it goes up and down. Is there anywhere i can buy a replacement front track? The front track is definitley what is causing the issue-- just wondering if it is even possible to replaced.

Bumping this because I've been driving around for nearly 6 months without a working window :).

Anyone have a tutorial on the glass replacement?

I've taken the internal brass rod out in order to get the new glass in and I can't get it to adjust correctly without causing the window to bind and fall out...
:help

I think my problem, was I put a longer screw into the inside door handle (the one you grab to pull the door closed. It was causing the window to pop out to get passed it up and down....probably bent the reg arm....

I am using the windows sparingly now, just in case, but I think that was the problem...
