Hi all,

New member, hate asking a question without introducing myself, but this one has me stumped!

I just leased an 08 328i from Tischer BMW... what a great dealer and what a great car! When I got it, the service indicator that you see when you start the car indicated 15,000 miles and 04/09 for a service date.

The car's got about 3,000 miles on it now, and the countdown (as of two days ago) read 12,000. This morning, I got in the car and the display changed from 12,000 to 22,000 miles! Sure enough, the intervals for the front/rear brakes had reset to 33,000/38,000 as well, but the Scheduled Service still read 04/09.

I talked to BMW assist, and they said to take it in, and connected me with Tulley BMW of Nashua, NH (I'm here for school for 3 months, so I don't have an SA up here). I was scheduled for an appointment and told it could take "3-4 hours", and then when I asked about a loaner, I was told that since I did not purchase the car there, they would not give me a loaner vehicle (!!!).

So, two questions -- has anybody had anything like this happen with the oil change/service intervals, and does anybody know of a good BMW center within an hour or so of Nashua?

The service interval is not fixed, the on board computer adjusts it according to your driving pattern. I had the opposite experience, my intervals were shrinking faster that I was racking miles, which makes sense because I do lots of city driving.

Keep in mind that you should take the car for service on the date displayed, even if you have not reached the service interval.

Drove the wifes 328 today and noticed it has 14,800 miles on it and thought to myself "I guess the oil needs to be changed soon as it has a 15k interval" or so I thought. So, I look through the menus on the computer and it says the interval is still 9,000 miles away. Do I really want the first oil change on this car to be at 25,000 miles?

Thanks for the advice. As a follow up, I spoke with someone from customer relations in the car the other day, and explained how the indicator had jumped 10,000 miles in one day. They said something was DEFINITELY wrong, and that there's no way it should go that long without an oil change.

What concerned me was how it went from 12 to 22 in less than 24 hours. I do a lot of city driving, so when I got it, the initial 15,000 dropped quickly to 14, 13, 12, etc... and all of a sudden, both the date (04/09) and the mileage (12,000) jumped to 01/2010 and 22,000.

Does anybody know of any good BMW centers in or around Nashua? Besides Tulley?

After one year you are entitled to a free oil change, regardless of what the computer says. I had my first oil change after 1 year even though I had only racked 8,000 miles (and they did not reset the counter). I had my second one last saturday, at 12,400 miles, even though the service interval was still 1,400 miles, because the service date was 9/08 (you do whichever comes first).

Good, because it has been almost exactly one year since we got it. I think I will schedule an appointment tomorrow.

FWIW, I wouldn't bother with a service visit just because the service indicator is high. So what? It's not hurting anything and you're months away from getting the service done. Wait until something major goes wrong, or the car is a year old and you want that first service.

Unless of course you've got the time and are willing to drive there and wait for it.
