In my opinion, the E30 M3 and the E36 M3 values will not be affected by the introduction of the new E46 M3. The simple (and short) reason is because the availability of the new M3 will be limited and the new M3's price puts it at the next higher level. In other words, a person shopping for a used '97 M3 for $30K will not be interested in a new '02 M3 for $55K and visa-versa.

Prices of the E30 M3 and E36 M3 will drop in value, not because of the new M3 coming out but because of "normal" depreciation...no more and no less.
