Thanks, in advance for any help with information.
Local (1991 my) 850 owner needs his (2) IHI turbos rebuilt/replaced as they're just pumping oil at this point. Unable to determine IHI model designation as nomenclature tag unreadable due to fifteen (15) years of heat/oil damage.
Original installation done at Dinan's shop around 1993. So far, unable to get required information from Dinan.
Ideally, we'd like to be able to get (identical) rebuilt replacement rotating assemblies ahead to time to minimize the downtime. Second best would be to have direct replacement turbos (2) on hand to swap out.
Major concern is to avoid having to do any additional fabrication/adaption of piping and/or manifolds, as it is really one tight package! Likewise, we don't don't want any tuning headaches as a result of any difference in replacement turbos.
Thanks again!

If Dinan not responding and you haven't already done so, you might want to call IHI.

Thanks Neil.
Doesn't seem to be a very broad knowledge base on this application; nobody now at Dinan was there when these were being built.

http://www.8coupe.com/Thanks for the link, but to really access any useful info (like find someone that might also have a Dinan twin turbo-8) you have to be registered. I can't register without a VIN :(
I'll pass this on to the SA where the car is scheduled to be worked on, as they'll have the VIN.

Hi Randy,
Have your friend contact me and I'll see if I can help him out. There are a few 850TT owners around here and we've dealt with various issues but for the most part have been able to fix whatever the problem was.
Here's a part of an email Steve Dinan sent me a while back re: Turbo's - might give you some more info. I can also put you in touch with some people at Dinan that may be able to help you more.
============
Turbos
The Turbo's are custom units utilizing a turbine from one turbo model and a
compressor from another. It has been so long I do not have a/r ratio info on
file anymore. But I still can rebuild the turbo's if you need it.
The waste gates are made by rotmaaster they are not longer in business. You
can substitute a turbonetics wastegate if you need one. They are almost
exactly the same size and operation.
There are two knock sensors one per side they are on the block below the
head gasket parting line. The sensors are bosh units the control unit is
made by a company called J&S. We do have replacements available if you need
one.
The boost is adjustable by the bolt on he wastegate. If you stay under ten
psi it will last 150k miles.

I've already passed your post on, so you may be hearing from him (he may not want his name posted here, but you'll know who it is if he E-mails you).
Thanks again.

Randy,
I ran into the same issue. I found the source for replacement turbo's at Carburation and Turbo Systems. Contact name is Dave and he has been able to get me full replacement center assemblies where I just bolt on the outer turbine and compressor housings.

Be patient in working with Dave as I sense he has a great deal of business and not much help. He is dependable though and has come thru for me for two new turbo's.
Note that you'll probably need to have some measurements on the inlet of the compressor side of the turbo's to make sure he gets you the correct assemblies.
