... if you car is chipped?
Any way to do this? I bought it used and am curious. The last thing I want to do is buy the chip only to find out it has been done already...
I have looked through most of the paperwork and haven't found anything, but still have more to go through, is that my best bet?

rev it up most chips set the revs around 7000rpm stock is around 6200rpm or you can look at the dme for tampering. the 325i I bought was chipped already but it was some cheap panther performance junk the only raised the revs and lost the speed limiter. its worth looking at the chip anyway just to see what it is. I replace mine w/ a DINAN unit. revs to 7100rpm +/- 20 hp +/- 20 trq can remember exactly and no speed limiter.

The OP's car would have a software upgrade, not a chip, if it has anything at all. Most software programs move the rev limiter upwards, and most remove the top speed governor. Those are parameters you can test, although testing the second one is not recommended on a public road.

sounds good. I will check the rev limiter, and I believe I don't have anything on it at the moment going off of memory the last time I ran it through it's paces a little bit, but I was pretty busy enjoying the beautiful noise it makes and negotiating the turns :)
Thanks for the tips guys.
Any big recommendations for a 97 328 as far as chips go?

the only thing you can get for an OBDII car is a shark injector or a custom tune.

true but you can also buy a shark that is tuned to certain mods. say you have exhaust CAI and cams you can buy a shark that tunes to that aswell.
