ok so i have a few questions about my 1993 318is. first off what motor would it have in it?
and second does a 318s trans bolt a m50 or anything? just wondering?

It has an M42b18 in it. The M42 has the same bolt pattern as the M5x motors.

ok well then what all would i need to purchase with an m50 if i got one?
also are the gears in the rearend different?

also is there anything different with an m50 that came from an auto car then a manual car?

alright i understand now.
so to do an m50 swap in my car id just need a long block and the ecu or what?

Some of those things have security features embedded where key has to match ecu (95 and later I believe). If you get one of those extra work will be required to make it operational.
You need the complete motor with all accessories and motor mounts, engine wiring harness and ecu. You'll need a correct flywheel and clutch if your donor is an automatic.

late 94 had EWS. Not sure of the exact date though. Add a Radiator and related parts to the list.

well its a 1993 318is. i was going to just put a new m42 in it i guess because it has some high miles and some pretty bad valve problems but i also have my totalled 1994 325is and i guess im just going to try and swap that into it now.
i havent even tried to crank it in forever so i dont know how thats going to work out ha
