I'm trying to start a Mini Midwest Sharkfest in the Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky area in Columbus, IN, 50 miles S/SW of Indianapolis.

I've been thinking for some time it would be nice to have a gathering in the Midwest, but the work to put on a successful event that is more then a handful of cars in a parking lot, can be daunting, until I talked to an organizer of an existing event that would love to include our Sharks.

The event is the Columbus Scottish Festival that has included a British car show for years. While the Festival has grown over the years, the car show has stagnated a bit because there are many other competing British car shows, so last year, they opened it up to "European" cars and at the end of the line sat my 635CSi and a brand new 6 series next to it; let's see if we can add some more to it! (Supposedly there are seven 635's in the Columbus area, but I haven't been able to contact them all yet)

The beauty of starting a Shark gathering at the Festival, is that the fun is not directly dependent on the number of cars that show up. The Festival is fun for everyone (Read, wife and kids) and a destination by it's self, with concession stands for food and merchandise, all day events such as Highland Games, Sheep dog competition, Musical entertainment, etc. So if you are free next weekend, and head to a nice little Festival for some fun, and you find a row of Sixer's there, that would just be the icing on the cake.

The best part is that if you bring a car for the FREE Car Show, that is your pass for FREE admission to the Festival! Dash plaques for every car and trophies will be awarded. The cars are located on the main avenue in the middle of the Festival. Cars of all condition are welcome, as it is not a huge show and is not stuffy but relaxed. Details for the Car Show: http://www.scottishfestival.org/cars.htm

If you think you can make it, leave a post to see what interest there might be, or if you have a suggestion or question (I'll be cross posting on the other forums also)

I heard last year that it was a good time -- a number of BMWs were there along with the MBs. I think that Blingham may also have taken another trophy. I couldn't make it last year as it was a drivers school weekend at Mid-Ohio, but this year looks clear. I plan to stop by, but don't know if I'm up for prepping the car to show.

Its part of Oktoberfest at the Germania Club and should be a good warmup for BMW CCA Oktoberfest at Watkins Glen beginning 9/23.

This sounds tempting, it's close enough. Don't know if I can make it on short notice though, & the 6 would need a good cleaning. I'll see what I can do. The 6 earned itself a trophy last year just by simply being an import. The top 3 imports were to receive a trophy, but there were only 2. 1st place went to a beautifully restored old VW where I had no chance .

I do need to get up there to Indy to see a friend, he just finished a 3 yr project where he dropped an M42 engine into his 2002. After his son punched a rod through the block of the original M10. It's no hack job, every part used (down to the last washer) is BMW!! Had to remove the all the steering for the M42 to fit, and used a rack from a 320 to handle the job of pointing the wheels. He's north of Indy in the little town of Kempton. He can now turn his attention to his even older project that was to be converting a Datsun 240Z over to 3.5 power from his old 635. He's now considering electric.
