Hi all...
OK, I have a 1988 M6 with the dreaded TRX tires still on (I have only 27,000 miles on the car...millions of frequent flyer miles with airlines!).
I know all about ordering tires from Coker...but at $455 per tire (plus mounting, of course), dread spending that money...
I was just reading that there MIGHT a fit with these tire sizes: 215/60-15 or 225/50-16
Can this be true??
Thanks for your help!!

You can fit a bunch of tire sizes on there, including what you posted, as well as 17's. In fact, most of us do not run the trx's - and wait till you see how much better the car will drive and handle with current tire technology. Plenty of wheels will work, be certain offset is mid to low. The wheel and tire for sale forum on here will provide you with plenty of CA used rims, then just buy some nice tires. This guide will help:

If you meant fit those tires on the TRX wheels, no. Do Not try to fit standard inch tires on a metric wheel. The TRX tire has a different type of bead.
In any case, for the price of a set of TRX rubber from Coker you can get a pretty decent set of new wheels and tires. For a little more you can get much better wheels.
As much as I like the look of the 415mm 3-piece wheels that came with my M635, I made a better investment by getting a set of Alpina open lugs in 16" staggered with tires for not much more than what a full set of 415mm TRX tires would have cost me.

+1. That is VERY dangerous. Get a set of cheap 16s from a E31.

Not only dangerous, but difficult as TRX wheels are either TRX 390 mm = 15.35 in. or if original M wheels TRX 415 mm = 16.34 in.

You should definitely dump the TRX's. They are incredibly expensive and not very good compared to the best Michelin and Bridgestone tires out there.
If you'd like to keep the car fairly period correct in terms of looks, grab some BBS RS's or BMW Style 5's. I've seen them refinished with black or black chrome studs, and they look fantastic, especially if the centers are nogaro.

These Style 19's don't look bad at all w/ the treatment, either...

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting a bunch of tires would fit those rims...sorry if I implied that, bunch of tire sizes will fit on that car... only an idiot would have suggested trying to put 16's or else on trx rims, don't let that person near your baby

If you are interested, I have a set of ASA-100's with 70% Pirrelis that are in beautiful shape that I am getting ready to put up for sale. They are 17x8 ET 18. I bought them to put on my 85 635CSi, but decided to stay with the 16" Alpinas. $600 plus shipping. They are a bargain as I no longer have any need for them. If you are interested, shoot me an email address and I will send some pics.

Gosh...sorry, everyone. I posted a while back with a similar question/thread, which is where I was informed about Coker. I have STILL been out of town (S.F.)(the joys of being in the film business), so yes SIXSERIES, my car still has 27,ooo miles on it. I understand until I post x-number of times here, I can't upload a photo...If you'd like me to email you one, my email address is: john@arnold.tv
The car is all-original, which is why I'm trying to keep the OEM wheels...and also, frankly, because driving down to a tireshop and simply having tires put on is the simplist thing. Plus, if I get those Cokers, not much fun when there is a flat.
Thanks for the suggestions and photos, E24mpwr. BBS RS and the BMW Style 5's look extremely close...
Well, that's about it.
Again, THANKS to all of you...

John:
The BBS RS is the closest to the OEM look, especially since you can get it in 16". Wokke on this board (http://www.wokke.de/) refinishes these wheels and does a fantastic job.
Personally I don't think the current TRX tires are very good, but if you aren't driving the car in bad weather or in a...spirited...fashion, they are fine.
