I have a 1999 M3 alpine white coupe, 5spd with 83K miles that I'm trying to sell. Car is in good to excellent condition, inside and out.

Has anyone traded in their e36 M3 in the past few months to a dealer or sold it through an auction? How much did you get for it? Prices from the Bay Area would be most helpful.

I checked Kbb and edmunds but their numbers are too inflated. TIA.

KBB trade in value should get you pretty close. Within a grand or two, anyways. Either way though, you'll get raped if you trade it in.

i was at the vw dealer the other day, an he was trying really hard to get me into a new r32, he saw me car and offered 11k on trade in. I told him i could get a lot more if i sold it myself, and then he offered 15k..which for a dealer trade in seems damn good..

my car is a 96 estoril/black, 70k miles, very clean

e36 m3 coupe/sedans seem to fall outta trees around sf bay area.

15k sounds really good for a trade offer.. what's your idea of "excellent condition"?
is the r32 @ 250 over invoice... still a vw.

Thanks for your input. I considered trading it in for a quick sale and to avoid the hassle of selling to a private party. Too many flaky and shady people on craigslist these days.

15K - i can not even sell my car for that much. take that deal.

mine is in pretty good shape, but i do have 122K miles on it ('98 M3 sedan). we bought an e46 in April, they would only give is 6K for it. this was in LA County. they did say they had never seen such a clean car that almost 10 years old, especially for the miles on it.

Which E46 did you get? How do you like it compared to your e36?

So far, I took it to one dealer and they offered me $9k. Mine is a 99 alpine white coupe with 83k miles.

That's what dealers charge for an excellent one at a dealer goes for 16K. There's a shortage of cash out there so I doubt I'll get that much but thanks for your feedback.

Thanks. I'll be sure to list it here 1st and craigslist 2nd.

I really can't see a dealer offering you more than 10-11k for your car. It sounds very nice and like something I might buy myself, but dealers are VERY cheap when it comes to buying used vehicles because they're in it to make money, not too buy *cool* cars.

However: if a dealer is fairly confident that he could sell this particular car for say 18k, then he might be willing to pay a premium for it. It all depends on his local market and how much recon the car needs before it is sellable.

if you got 15k from a dealer, take the offer... they must be retarded.... as for op, given your miles and color and lets say its in decent condition, with worn leather... you'd probably get 10k, $10500 if you're lucky. and the more expensive cars they sell.... the lesser the trade in values...

let me also give you a buisness secret, they're always going to want a 20% profit margin at the minimum.. so what you think you're car is selling for at the dealer, minus 20% then offer.

dealers can sell more, because they're the dealer; everyone assumes they have better pre-owned cars.

Use NADA not KBB to estimate the cost of your car. KBB is garbage.

If dealer is giving you 15K its because he is either making money on the financing or the R32 (since those are not selling well). Retail price is around 10 to 11 and auction (wholesale) is around 7 to 8.

Yea I would take the 15k for sure. Your car is not worth that even as a private sale. Dealers will give you next to nothing for our cars now. Dont even bother trying to trade it in.

[ bait and switch ] "Oh did I say 15k, I meant 5k..."

Not to beat your ego down man but... $15k? The salesguy might say that, but the sales manager won't do it...

$15k *might* be the retail price of a 99 M3 with low miles. I mean would you buy your M3 for $15k?

yea i dont really believe that he would ever give me 15k, no dealer would. in fact his offer of 11k was probably too much

i bought the car for 14k... :shifty

I am considering an M3 but was waiting until the end of the year to get a little more aggresive. However if the right car came along....... I sent you a private message (I attempted to at least). Thanks.

I'd probably be lucky to get $5-6k for mine. It is in decent condition, but has 170k on it.:(

No way, you'd probably get more than 5-6k; I just bought mine near the end of july with 199k for 6.5k 1997 m3/4/5 arctic silver/ dove grey
