I got a traffic ticket a week ago. It is 1 point. You can get 4 points a year before they take your license. Is it worth the extra $80 and the time for the traffic school? I only carry liability on my 96 M3 with StateFarm insurance which costs $25 per month. I'm 35 and have a clean record.

Your best bet is to talk to your agent. Some insurance companies forgive the first ticket, others don't. My personal philosophy has been to always go to traffic court if it's available to you. You never know when a string of bad luck will hit and you get a second ticket in the same year/month/week/day/hour.
EDIT: BTW, you don't have to tell them you got a ticket, just ask what happens if you were to get one. Yes, they probably will assume you got one, but they won't care.

you might not even need traffic school here u just go to court and keep it off your record and get full coverage on that damn M3 son!!

holy crap that's cheap for just liability, I pay 175.87 every 6 months for the liability on my 135i, 100/300/100 coverage

If you do traffic school, I think this ticket will be dismissed, leaving no record. You can only take traffic school every 18 months, meaning only one ticket can be dismissed every 18 months. Hopefully, these are correct. I learned this a few years ago.

It all depends on your previous driving record, length of time with a license, and your insurance company. It's best to call your agent and ask.

I doubt it is worth it for a single point. Save that traffic school for the big one!

Here in NJ, you would be walking. Anything over 12 points on your license, it gets revoked

I think he means on the liability portion of his insurance.
At least I hope... in the sue-happy US it's insane to drive without full coverage if you own any significant amount of assets.
