So I got this 3.5 HFM for 70 bucks here on the forums (:shifty) and now its throwing a mass flow sensor code. Can the sensor itself be replaced or do I need a whole new HFM?

Of course I sold my stock one immediately telling myself I'll never need that again so I would really like to just replace the sensor inside the HFM and not the whole thing, because I usually see those for like $150 and it would be lame if I had to buy a second one. of course I could allways just sell it on ebay.. :shifty

Did you wire it properly, which HFM is it?

wire it properly? it just plugs in lol, so yes, i plugged it in.. its a 3.5 I'm not sure what car its from, does that matter? Or could it be some kind of software issue since stock I have a 3" and now I just put it a 3.5? I really dont know a whole lot about it, I thought it would work me just plugging it in..

Right, well just plugging it in is not going to do anything besides throw a CEL. You need to buy software to match the 3.5" HFM.

To make the car run properly for now you are going to need either

A) Software - which usually also involves injectors
B) A stock HFM.

If you need one I have one.

21.5 injectors?
I have a conforti chip now... so I guess I would have to sell that, get a new chip along with new injectors? Or could I get mine reprogrammed? (could you confirm I need 21.5 injectors? I didn't think I would need injectors unless I went cams or FI)

its all about your software, do some searching. There is tons of stuff out there about it.

who said anything about injectors? all you need is a 3.5" maf specific tune
or a stock 3" maf...

if your running this without software that is your problem.

Ok thanks, I just learned something new. bigger HFM = new software. duh ! and yea i didnt think I needed new injectors since I dont have cams/ FI(at least not yet..) SO I guess I have a jim conforti chip for sale now heh. wish i had looked into that more before I got my current chip, i guess thats my punishment for not researching enough.
thanks guys!

you dont need new injectors for just a 3.5 inch hfm like the 540, or the euro hfm. dont go with 24lbs unless you are doing cams very very soon like at the same time. If your going to go with bigger injectors for the 21.5 lbs injectors with a tune for those.

yea i was thinking about future mods.. im probably going to keep it as it is (intake/chip/exhaust) for another good 6 months or a year before i go cams/FI so I will just go ahead and get the chip for stock injectors and 3.5 HFM. what a bitch though, having to get a new chip just for that.

being realistic....... :)

you don't need a 3.5" MAF... your still wayyy limited by intake, TB, TC, boots and cams.

chip/pink tops and call it a day :D

BTW when are READY to pull the trigger($$) have ALL your parts and do it @ once... save ya alot of $$ in chips.

i thought bmw chips could sort of "get use" to the new part.. and reprogram it self
