Interested to know if anyone has car alarm systems in their 6s? If so, any recommendations for a system. I'm sure the technology has changed over the years. Sorry, never had a car with an alarm before.

I've got a Python system in mine. It isn't AMAZING but it certainly does the trick! I think in the future I want to get one of those proximity alarms! No one messes with my 6'er anyway or... they'd probably end up dead :)

My M came with an Alpine that seems pretty good. It has standard ignition and fuel cutout. I added a 112 DB piezo siren in the engine bay, as the one in the trunk was not loud enough. It central locks and has a radar sensor so you can leave the windows and sunroof open, but still have the interior zone protected. I need to change the sensitivity, but it is supposed to detect something as small as a hand coming into the passenger compartment. I like the radar feature and would recommend it as a desirable option. It would be nice if it had window rollup and sunroof close.

I run a Clifford that's as old as the car.. I have both the time and sensitivity set way down, figuring if I don't hear it nobody else will care. :(
Handy part is the remote locks, worth the price for that alone.

DEI / viper .. and with DEI / viper and many more of them you can add modules to get more features like , remote start , windows up/down , lights ect. ect.
I have proximity sensor , shock sensor , glass break as well as door pins sensors hooked up...works good for me..PLUS it keeps my cat off the car !!! lol
you should at least have the factory alarm !!! you could use that until you get a new alarm .
the OEM OBC lock/alarm is nice...but who wants to go through all that mess just to set an alarm.

Hi,
Curious ... what IS the process to arm the OEM/OBC alarm? The PO didnt know how to use it and neither do I, unfortunately. Thanks

You hit the code button on the OBC, enter the desired 4 digit code in the OBC, and hit code again. Then, when you want to start the car again, turn the key to run, enter the code in the OBC, and then start the car.

Mine has the factory alarm with the magnetic key. I tried it before but it did not work properly. Have reset it now and still have to give it a go sometime. Just don't want to annoy any people living around my garage, as I'm usually there at inconvenient times. The previous owner told me the alarm was disconnected and did not work, but I'm not so sure.

thanks for the instructions. So, when the stock alarm is triggered, the small, red light next to the driver side, exterior door handle illuminates or is it lit when the alarm is armed?
Also, and probably more importantly, what if the PO doesnt know the OBC/alarm code??

The right light next to the driver's door handle should blink a couple of times when you put the magnetic key in the slot left to the rear license plate. If it keeps blinking, something is not right.
The OBC code is not set in stone. You arm it with, say code 1234.
When you want to start, you put in 1234, after that the code is reset to nothing.
So you have to set it every time you leave the car, if you want to arm it. Pretty basic stuff really, but can come in handy, unless the electronics go haywire, in which case you can unhook the battery :D

I have the same one, and haven't tried it for the same reason. Right now I'm sorting out the under-dash connections, so maybe I'll see if mine is still connected.

While doing my stereo work, I found two blue female connectors that were disconnected, not sure if they have anything to do with the alarm. Will have to check the wiring diagram and track everything down.
