It's superior in every imaginable and unimaginable way. The fact that I happen to have one has no bearing on this opinion! Shut up! If there were cars with 6 or 8 doors I'd be out there extolling their magnificence with every last breath. Did you know Coupe means cut? Who wants to drive a cut car? Maybe you think it's more sanitary, or maybe you'd like to fit in with the other coupes so they won't laugh at you; but in the end, it's an affront to nature, covenant be damned.

1) I see about 100 e46 sedans a day on the road, about 2-3 e46 coupes a day (not necessarily important)
2) Sportier, meaner look (opinion)
3) SPORT SUSPENSION STANDARD! (for the 3ers atleast after 2001 or so i think)
4) Undeniably large amount of trunk space and luggage space with rear folding back seat (3 series coupes)
5) Better standard wheels from factory
6) Back windows don't look retardedly large and family like (just my opinion)

Everyone forgets about the 8s :(

Awwwwwww, give this man a tissue, and a cookie :D

No, just kidding. Your car is waaaay more badasss than most of the cars on this entire board. And for that matter, add to the list 8 series should be coupes. Sad that the 8 series prototypes are all 4 door, or "4 door coupes" like the Mercedes CLS. (what a croc of sh*t, there is no such thing as a 4 door coupe)

And another thing, the only reason they are making a 4 door porsche ("panamera") and a 4 door aston, and now I hear a 4 door ferrari, is to improve sales. These cars are not broken, so they are NOT fixing them. They are compromising style for convenience, usability and profit. So the wealthy older mid life crisis people (well, majority of) whom can afford these cars, can get away with it.

Convenience and Usability does not = Style

True...

but erroneous. There are no 5 series coupes to compare them too. And that's a subjective statement to say the least. The only two remarkable "as-is" track cars that BMW have ever released are the e30 m3 and the e46 m3 csl.

Just so you know, by definiton all coupes are sedans. But not all sedans are coupes.

"At its most basic, the sedan is a passenger car with two rows of seats and adequate passenger space in the rear compartment for adult passengers. The vehicle most commonly has a separate trunk (boot in British English), for luggage at the rear."

2) Sportier, meaner look (opinion)For the M? For sure. But the non M coupe looks like the female version of the m3, Less agressive design and narrow'er fenders. And that front Bumper. The sedan has an edge to it, like an athlete in a business suit.

3) SPORT SUSPENSION STANDARD! (for the 3ers atleast after 2001 or so i think)Its still too high.

5) Better standard wheels from factoryUnless your talking about the M68's I think all the wheels are on the same level. All ugly.

4 doors - I don't like the look vs the same two door car, heavier, 2 extra doors=more problems with windows/regulators/motors/etc. Cheaper insurance, easier to get in/out of the back seat. I think this best suits a larger car like the 5 series. The 3 series is kind of small for 4 doors IMO.

2 doors - look best, lighter, considered sporty = higher insurance, harder to get into backseat (some may consider this a good thing). Less practical if you have a family.

e30=coupe
e36=sedan
e46=coupe
e92=coupe, unless its the new m3 sedan:eek:

The e36 Sedans are sex. Other BMW's generally the coupe would be my choice. But for some reason I cant take my eyes off of the e36 Sedans, especially those rare 97/98 M3's. Also, the weight argument is erroneous, look in your owners manual and tell me the wieght difference between the two cars. (Those doors that fly open like wings are heavy)

Also, it depends so much on the car. Ferrari's have two doors and should never have more. SUV's have four doors and should never have two (Ahem, FJ CRUISERS ARE DISGUSTING! Cough) Excuse me, I am sorry...

In general, I think that a tuned, pimped, sexified, whatever it is you want to call it.... Sedan is cooler than a coupe. Because in general coupes with performance modifications are a dime a dozen. A well done sedan is more unique and useful.

It depends on which 3 series you're talking about, but I believe for the E46 the coupe weighs a few pounds less than the sedan.

I think the fact that sports suspension came standard on coupes after 2001 may have added some weight, but surely that small weight is balanced by the superior handling.

There really isn't much more space in a sedan than a coupe. The real difference is that they have 4 doors, and are not as sleek and nice looking :)

Personally, I don't like the prefacelift e46 sedans, but do like the post face lift. There's something about the front end headlights and grills that just destroy the look

And as for coupes, prefacelift coupes, and postfacelift both look awesome.

driver145
08-21-2008, 02:30 PM
Its all in the eye of the beholder... this has to be the most opinionated thread I have ever read.

I can only have one car right now, and I drive by myself 75+% of the time like most single people I know. I PERSONALLY believe the coupe looks way better and I could careless about the person in the back, and I have to be DD less often. I always plan on owning one coupe and one day if I need a four door and can afford then so be it. Right now the only good looking four door car that I would consider driving, and love infact, is the Masseratti Quattroporte. Also, in the case of the E46, the coupe might not be that much lighter (if at all), but it has a completely different footprint (longer and wider) and it sits lower and has stiffer suspension. Also, riding in a coupe with the windows down is amazing, you do not even feel the wind, with a sedan you have to roll all four windows down and it still hits the pillar next to your head. I also enjoy geting out of the car with the window down, because the top of the door frame doesnt try to stab you in the throat.

4 door sedans are better. Had an e30 sedan, Still have my e36 sedan, and not I have a 335i sedan.

-Don't have to move the seat for anyone
-The car looks more complete
-Coupes look like rear ended sedans
-You dont have the huge heavy door that might chop your legs off when they swing back
-I get claustraphobic in the back seat of a coupe
-Insurance is cheaper on a sedan
-The horrified look on a coupe driver's face when they get smoked by my 335i sedan

It would be bad ass if it were my real name. My brother who was 9 picked out that name cause he was a pokemon fanatic. I should get a mod to change it haha

Wow, for those saying that a coupe's insurance is killer, I just went from a 4-door toyota avalon to a Z4 roadster, insurance went up $3 a month. :P

Coupe > Sedan
Yeah, not everyone lives in KY :p For me, the coupe would be 285 a month to insure. For my sedan, Im paying 225.
