this might be a fun project for someone. If only I could get it to swap the trans or just have two 540i's. Parts galore!

Is a manual tranny even worth swapping in if it's got 300K on it? Damn...

Wish there was someone local that I could trust to check it out.. I'd buy that thing.

I had a 740 with 294k on it and it ran better than any car I've ever had. Those V8's are good little motors and with a manual behind it, it should run forever.

I agree. My M60 has 271k on it and its still very solid and powerful. Very little oil leaking, no knocking, Solid motor.

my m20 runs better now at 260k than when it was purchased at 160k. Just as long as compression still there and keep up on preventive maintenance our cars should last forever.

I didn't say it was a scam. I said "something isn't quite right". If I had to guess, that $1500 5'er is going to cost someone a few thousand dollars shortly.

And since it appears I have to spell everything out. That means I think its going to need some serious work in the near future.

With that kind of mileage, you're throwing good money after bad. As good of a car a 540/6M is, how many of us have cars that ran beyond that mileage? Even if it's maintained well, there's will be issues that needs to be addressed...and since it's not an american car, parts are wayyyy expensive. I'd say look elsewhere.

I would just part it out or use it for parts for my E34.. Full interior with SPort seats and the gathered leather door panels!!!

plus all the wood if you like it or put it on ebay.. Hell you part it all out and keep the interior and make your moneyback!!

too bad its in MA. and not in PA.

That car came from lynn so it was probably used in a driveby or robbery or something negative like that.
I'm gonna mention this to my dad whose looking to trade in his 02' X5
for something cheaper.
He would be able to throughly get that thing checked out

OK .

Bad:
Tan sport seats drivers left bolster torn and seat back twisted. A/C does not work but compressor spins. Car runs but ticked a bit and there is an oil leak from bank two rear not sure where prob valve gasket but could be worse. Rust on the bottom of all the doors and trunk. Trim molding is falling off exterior. Leather is in good conditio. Blower fan work and is quite. All windows work but the rear is weak and needs to be helped. Tires in fair condidtion oem rims but out side of from wheels are worn i suspect suspension is to blame but could be incorrect tire pressure.

Good:
Brand new hellas front. All other lenses orig in great shape. Paint great overall but needs a serious wax. Six speed shifts nicely into first he has no plates so i could not drive it anywhere but a dirt lot. Suspension did not squeak. New brakes according to the owner.

Let me know if anyone else has questions. I don't know what the car is worth i am currently talking with the owner and negoiating.

Just FYI, it's Hemenway, not Hemingway. I only bring it up because I worked at the intersection of Hemenway and Boylston for 8 years...

i've lived here for 3 years never looked at the street sign. Graduated from W.I.T. 2 years ago. I have lived all over the area. If anyone is on the fenway looking for my e34 it is at the home in a garage. It took enough abuse of the boston bump for the past 3 years. So i have a clunker volvo to wreck other cars who dare to bump it. Plus the bimmer has gotten me way to many speeding tickets.

So any feedback on the car. Does anyone need parts on it. Should i pick her up and part her out or should i rebuild her. The main thing is the engine. I am not sure how confident i am in a 300k motor and the rust is a drawback as well

you have to look at it as a gamble. Have a preset amount of money you will throw at it (not a terrible amount, Maybe between $500-1000, things can get expensive fast!). Drive it until something explodes or falls apart on it, heck you could get 10,000 miles out if it like my car and have it owe you nothing! (mine has 272,000 miles on it). If and when it explodes, part it out. It's the type of car that is on its way to the junker, so buying it would give it another lease on life.

yea, It is a great deal, but only if you have and except these expectations when owning it.

Petes540i6
08-05-2008, 09:19 PM
That's a deal no matter how you slice it. Who cares about the mileage? At 125K or 250K, you will be dealing with niddling issues all the time anyway. As long as the motor seems relatively strong and not burning oil. Dump some time and a few grand in wheels and repairs and you would have a pretty decent car.

crazyrobbery
08-06-2008, 07:59 AM
So does anyone want the car or want parts. I have no relation with seller. I would like to see this car rescued but i don't have the time right now i have enough project cars.

kalevera
08-06-2008, 12:07 PM
It's now on eBay @ $950. Easily worth the price if the trans kit is good (and you have a car that you want to convert), otherwise....

I wonder, if by some freak miracle, it still has the original engine, as the thing went in for a leakdown test (and passed) about 9 years ago....

I'd probably buy it if it were close, but I'm certifiable when it comes to collecting junk.

My 535 already has 229k so another 65k is a walk in the park.

WAY BETTER... you just have to know how to spend wisely.

Dude, I live in New England. 'Nuff said.

These bitches are beat at my school.

You're doing it wrong.

Here's the breakdown. The ratio of women to men in Boston is 60/40. There's 245,000 college students that come to Boston every year. At an average of 4 years per school, you take 25% of that, and split it 60/40 and you'll find there's 37,000 (I've done the math, it's all based on rounding off for the point I'm making) new girls coming in to Boston every year. If you can't find a decent girl with those odds, maybe you're not looking hard enough.
