Thanks in advance,

Problem:

Went to turn off my 1997 M3 today when i got home and the key rotated backward like it would and i took it out, but the car did not turn off. So i put the key back in and tried to get it to turn off but it will not go counterclockwise it will just would turn forward, i cant even get it to go forward unless i wiggle just right and then it goes but it doesnt do anything you can just keep turning it.

I have taken the steering wheel off and the steering bracket eveything is removed now to work on it, please let me know the next step to getting this resolved so i can drive my car, i ended up just stalling the car out to get it to shut off and then disconnected the battery so the accesories would go off.

Thanks

If you do a search again you will find a whole DIY on it, it's the part in the ignition barrel that breaks, you will need a new barrel assembly

just got your private message.
I sent you one back letting you know how i got on with mine.
You do not need a new ignition barrell, or a new coded key.
If you can remove the ignition barrell intact, all well and good.

What you need is the housing, that houses both the steering lock and the ingition.
Insert the new barrell, its basically just a plug in job. and build it all back up.
Let us know how you get on.

this happend to mine and my bro's car. think the part is called the ignition tumbler and/or the ignition lock cylinder. i paid a shop to fix this on mine it was close to $500 i think for parts and labor. anyway good luck my bro's broke like 3 days after he bought his car used which really sucked.

I have the same issue(s) however it has a twist... The hole where u stick the pin in to depress the lock has something jammed in it. What are my alternitives?!
