View Full Version : Is this a good price on a Auto to Manual swap kit?
$1800 shipped for:
tranny w/ cross member
flywheel
clutch
pilot bearing
drive shaft 4 bolt
pedals
slave cylinder & lines
shifter
boot and knob
clutch master
All this stuff from a donor M3 w/ 86k. Not sure what year M3 yet.
Am I missing anything besides the cross member for the trans? I think thats about it right?
Also what else should I consider purchasing? I was thinking of leaving out the shifter assembly and get a SSK instead. Do I need any parts of the stock shifter for an SSK or just leave that out?
I don't want a ltw flywheel because of the chatter. I hate noises like that, drives me nuts. Stock clutch should do me good too, but would it be a better idea to just purchase a new one now?

I think it is a little steep, unless you're doing a six speed swap or a real low miles E36 M3 5-speed. I'm performing a six speed swap for a little less than a grand.

Um.... no way. A 6spd runs like 2400 just for the trans

What type of clutch and flywheel does that come with? I guess that is an alright price, considering that shipping is factored into the price.

FINALYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
1800 is not tooo bad, but if you are patient you could save a little. Just depends on whether you want it now or later.

This thread title should be changed to "Volfinator 5-speed swap thread #47" :rofl

I'm the cheapest guy I know. So labor will be free.

Well car's not going up on blocks until winter. But I've got a hefty pile of parts in my garage right now and I'm hoping to add to it so I have it all ready. I guess I could shop around.

 True, unfortunately for the "Auto-erotics" 47th time is a charm.
Also to answer another question, the clutch and flywheel is out of the donor M3.
Also you gotta figure that shipping on all this will be in the $200-$300 range so really in parts I'm looking at about 1500-1600 bucks.

Just reflash the DME from what I understand. BMW can do this for like 100 bucks I think?

Actually this is true in some cases. :D
Specifically OBD2 cars where smog certification requires an on board systems check. Member slvrbmw328i had this issue, and the solution was getting his ECU reflashed with a manual version.

Mayb I just know how to buy! You would shit a brick if you knew how much I spent on my six speed.
Good luck, I still say your pricing is high!

I'd rather not shit a brick. Instead we'd ALL like to know where you got a 6spd for cheap.

Well actually its still up in the air. A lot of this depends on the result of my compression/leakdown test on monday.
If the motor sucks, stock e46 M3 and being poor here I come. If the motor is still in good shape, insane e36 M3 and still have money here I come.

seriously, im looking to do a 6spd swap, where'd you get it and how much was everything in the end?
and volfinator, why not a 6spd swap? i say save up for just a little longer :)

Its not a matter of saving. Money isn't the issue per say...Its more of not being able to talk myself into spending 3-4k on a trans swap.

Lolz..
It would sooo be worth it volf. At least I think so.. with a 5 speed and your short gearing, you are going to be seeing pretty high RPMs on the highway. A 6 speed trans would fix that right up.

I'm back to stock gears. 3.91s were about to grenade so I pulled them. contemplating rebuild or selling them off as we speak
The more and more I think about this, the more and more I figure I might as well do it right and go 6spd.
