Depends on the alarm you have.

My Euro EWS2 alarm has a 3 button "remote" (actually remote+key in one) ->

See that's the problem. My car didn't come with a remote, and really I just finally looked in the engine bay and saw the horn and I have the little led light right by the ASC button, so I know I have an alarm/keyless. I think I'm going to try a 2 button remote off ebay, program it and hope it works. I'm tired of using my dang key to open it. My car came with the key that has the one button in the middle that lights up so you can see the keyhole.

Nice. But I was making the wild assumption that his "Location: Charleston, SC" meant he had a US-spec car :)

The factory alarm for the 96 and later E36 used the rounded two-button remote (compared to the squared-off three button on the earlier E36).

The alarm brain is underneath the glovebox, if you want to confirm that you have the BMW system.

True that! Didn't look that far and I saw another change of whoring off my Euro EWS2 key ;)
