I have a 95 M3 and so does another forum member here that I hang with a few nights a week and we did a 10 punch to the top of 2nd gear and I had a nose on him. Here is the catch tho, he has AA exhaust, dinan 3.5 intake, HFM and conforti SW and all I have is a custom (magnaflow)exhaust and 3.38 gears with a knockoff 3.5 in intake but no hfm or sw.

he was saying that the hfm does absolutly nothing until after 120...which I cannot believe because my 332is that I built had it and it was a huge gain.

Even a 4th gear punch on the highway (several months ago) before I got my 3.38 I would edge on him up to ~120

Whats the deal with my car? why is it faster than his and he has mods?

Maintenance can be an issue. Also, you're racing 10+ year-old cars... there are a lot of things that deteriorate in that time, so a stock to stock comparison is no longer valid; what you're each racing is not a factory-new commodity.

Is one of you 150lbs and the other 300lbs?

Did one of you have a trunk full of tools?

What was the relative humidity in his lane and in your lane? temperature differences, different altitudes... those all come into play, even just in the next lane! :devillook

last night it was about 30% humidity and around 83 deg. He has a fresher motor since he $$$ shifted and got a motor with less miles installed several years ago. Im 185 and he is around 200 lbs, I would guesstimate the same amount of weight in the trunk.

I think his motor has ~90K (~150K on chassis) and mine has 112K on engine/chassis

Maybe you are jsut a superior driver

Funny, you addressed all of my read-herring points...

Yes, a newer engine could explain some of that. Without compression tests on both, it's hard to say what condition those cylinders are in.

I guess my question is, would/should I chalk it up to my gearing over his mods?

Yes, a newer engine could explain some of that.

He has the fresher motor and I was ahead though... :dunno

THen maybe he got a crappy replacement.

Sure, your gearing is more agressive and would quicken you up quite a bit.

3.38 gears make quite the difference. I love mine

dont get me wrong, his car is quick but he keeps wanting to try to beat me and I dont think that he can (possibly to gearing). at gas prices being so high and my 100 mile commute to and from work, not sure that I want to continue doing this to prove to him that I have the quicker car
