Slow take off with exlamation mark

Hey guys....I've had an exclamation mark with the gear around it come up on my cluster a couple times and went away, but today its came up and I'm worried about it. I put the car in drive and hit the gas, the rpm is going up but the car is not moving. It finally starts to go but it take a long time to get up to 20 mph. I get to a stop sign and I put it in 3 and the car moves/takes off better but nothing like the norm in Drive. Please help is it my trans fluid, filter ...Thanks

Its a fail safe. It means something is wrong with your tranny and it only has it in 4th gear which has a 1:1 ration so yea it will be a verrrry slow take off...

Limp mode i think

Yeah it's commonly called limp mode. Basically, a transmission problem was detected and that light came on to tell you to get it fixed. You didn't get it fixed, so now it is in limp mode so you can get yourself home. Presumably, you are home, so either fix it yourself or have it towed to your mechanic. Limp mode was not intended to be driven around in.
