I've been smelling gasoline for about the last month. It only happens when I fill up.
I did a search and saw some post's about leaking fuel lines on the fuel sensors. I pulled the acess plate from the driver side and the whole top of the damn sensor recess was full of muddy gasoline.
It took almost an hour to clean the crap off, and two rolls of blue shop towels.
So it's sparkely clean and I'm lookin' real hard at it and damn straight! Both of them little bastard nipples have a hair-line crack around about half the circumfrence, and fuel just seeps out when you pull back ever so slightly.
The tug of the fuel hose was enough to probably crack the thing. They don't give much extra line...at all!
I had to cut the ends of the old rubber line off because they had soaked for so long in gunky gasoline crud, that the ends were all swollen up and falling apart. I managed to pull enough to re-attach one of the lines , but had to lengthen the other one.(tank to tank).
Not fixed by no means...has anyone done this themselves? I have the Bentley Manual.....and read the procedure. I was just curious if theres an alternative to using the bmw (special) tool?
Thanks, Pat

Of course theres an alternative. Its a flat head screw driver and a hammer. I bet dealer dosnt even use the 'special tool'.
